LENNOX — Christian DeYoung’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth broke a 3-3 tie, helping Redfield to a 4-3 victory over Beresford in an elimination game in the South Dakota State Class A American Legion Seniors Baseball Tournament on Sunday in Lennox.
Redfield led 2-0 after two innings and 3-1 after four innings before Beresford scratched across a single run each in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Bennett Osborn drew a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on the DeYoung single to left.
DeYoung finished with two hits, and Barrett Wren had a hit and two RBI for Redfield. Bennett Osborn had a hit and two runs scored. Camden Osborn, Conner Jessen and Gage Clausen each had a hit in the victory.
Conner Thaler went 2-2 with two runs scored, and Jack Antonson doubled for Beresford. Alec Atwood, Marcus Van Driel, Beau Van Gelder, Matthew Roth and Brad Christensen each had a hit in the effort.
Peyton Osborn went the distance in the win, striking out four. Jackson Bickett took the loss, also going the distance.
Redfield will play unbeaten Lennox in the second game today (Monday).
Lennox 5, Humboldt-Hartford 3
LENNOX — Lennox scored four runs in the top of the seventh to claim a 5-3 victory over Humboldt-Hartford in the South Dakota State Class A American Legion Seniors Baseball Tournament on Sunday in Lennox.
Lennox trailed 3-1 after six innings.
Camden Wulf had two hits to lead Lennox. Holdon Wagner doubled. Ray Williams and Zach Leisinger each had a hit in the win.
Devon Garry and Carter Healy each had a hit for Humboldt-Hartford.
Mason Miller pitched two innings of shutout relief for the win. Garry took the loss, also in relief.
Humboldt-Hartford faces Winner-Colome in an elimination game today (Monday) at 4:30 p.m. Lennox will face Redfield in the second game.
Winner-Colome 7, Big Stone City 5
LENNOX — Winner-Colome rallied from an early 5-0 deficit, scoring four runs in the seventh to claim a 7-5 victory over Big Stone City in an elimination game in the South Dakota State Class A American Legion Seniors Baseball Tournament on Sunday in Lennox.
Jackson Kinzer doubled and singled, scoring twice, for Winner-Colome. Dalton Baker and Carter Brickman each had two hits. Joren Bruun doubled. Phil Jorgensen had a hit and two RBI, and Layton Thieman and Shea Connot each had a hit in the victory.
Elijah Cloos went 2-3 with a home run and three RBI for Big Stone City. Tyson Powell had two hits and two runs scored. Deaven Boots doubled, and Carter Powell had a hit and two RBI in the effort.
Bruun pitched 5 1/3 innings of shutout relief, striking out four, for the win. Josh Mueller took the loss in relief.
Winenr-Colome faces Humboldt-Hartford in an elimination game today (Monday)at 4:30 p.m.
Humboldt-Hartford 3, Redfield 2
LENNOX — Humboldt-Hartford rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to claim a 3-2 victory over Redfield in the second round of the South Dakota State Class A American Legion Seniors Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Lennox.
Kadyn Nolz tripled and doubled for Humboldt-Hartford. Caden Ideker also had two hits. Broc Haldeman doubled, and Devon Garry and Clay Habben each had a hit in the effort.
Bennett Osborn had two hits and Peyton Osborn doubled for Redfield. Christian De Young, Camden Osborn, Conner Jessen and Drew Masat each had a hit in the effort.
Habben pitched six innings, striking out three, for the win. Haldeman pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Noah Hainy took the loss, striking out five in his 5 1/3 innings of work.
Lennox 5, Winner-Colome 1
LENNOX — After needing late inning heroics in the first round, Lennox took control early in its second- round game. Lennox scored three runs in the second inning and built a 5-0 lead on the way to a 5-1 victory over Winner-Colome in the second round of the South Dakota State Class A American Legion Seniors Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Lennox.
Lennox beat Dell Rapids 5-4 in nine innings on Friday night.
Ray Williams went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead Lennox. Holdon Wagner had a hit and two runs scored. J.D. Kirchner (MMC recruit), Quincy Ihnen and Camden Wulf each had a hit in the win.
Oscar Pravecek doubled and singled for Winner-Colome. Phil Jorgensen also doubled. Joren Bruun, Jackson Kinzer, Layton Thieman and Calvin Ringing Shield each had a hit in the effort.
Wulf picked up the win, striking out eight in his 6 1/3 innings of work. Carter Brickman took the loss, going the distance.
