SIOUX FALLS — Yankton split an American Legion baseball doubleheader at Sioux Falls East on Tuesday at Harmodon Park.
In the opener, four Yankton hitters had two hits each in a 9-3 victory.
Bailey Sage went 2-4 with a double and three RBI to lead Yankton. Caid Koletzky, Matthew Mors and Levi Wiersma each had two hits. Ethan Wishon doubled and Rex Ryken added a hit in the win.
Nick Kemper doubled and singled to lead East. Brandon Ford and Tyler Boyum each had a hit.
Kieren Luellman pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out four, for the win. Miles Carda got the final two outs. Jake Smith took the loss.
In the nightcap, Kemper had two doubles and Garrett Winblade went 2-3 with a triple to lead East to a 14-4 victory.
Garren Heinert went 2-2 with a double, and Michael Hedeen had two hits and three RBI for East. Boyum and Dayne Bartels each had a hit and two RBI, and Tanner Olmstead and Nate Smith each had a hit in the win.
Sage doubled for Yankton. Carda, Luellman, Owen Feser, Koletzky and Mors each had a hit.
Connor Boe picked up the win. Sam Mooney took the loss.
Yankton, 15-7, travels to Mitchell on Thursday. Start time for the twinbill is 5 p.m.
Yankton Juniors 7-13, Brandon Valley 6-14
VALLEY SPRINGS — Yankton and Brandon Valley split a pair of extra-inning contests in American Legion Juniors baseball action on Tuesday in Valley Springs.
In the opener, the Yankton juniors scored two runs in the eighth, then held on for a 7-6 victory.
Trevor Fitzgerald went 2-3 with a home run and three runs scored for Yankton. Carson Haak and Cameron Zahrbock each doubled. Joe Gokie and Tristan Redman each had a hit in the win.
Gokie went the distance in the win, striking out four in the eight-inning contest.
In the nightcap, Brandon Valley scored five runs in the seventh and another in the eighth for a 14-13 victory.
Austin Wagner went 3-5 with two doubles and three runs scored for Yankton. Fitzgerald went 3-5 with a triple. Jayden Lightner doubled and singled, driving in four runs and scoring three runs. Zahrbock also had two hits, scoring three times. Matt Hein doubled, and Gokie and Tony McGlone each had a hit in the effort.
Haak, the fourth Yankton pitcher, took the loss.
Yankton, 8-10, travels to Watertown on Thursday. Start time for the twinbill is 5 p.m.
Hartington 22-19, Randolph 1-3
HARTINGTON, Neb. — Hartington scored 41 runs on the way to a doubleheader sweep of Randolph in American Legion Seniors baseball action on Tuesday.
In the opener, Hartington scored 11 runs in the first inning and didn’t look back, rolling to a 22-1 victory.
Sam Feilmeier went 4-4 with a triple, two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored to lead Hartington’s 24-hit barrage. Jacob Kaiser went 4-5 with a triple, a double, five RBI and three runs scored. Ted Bengston also went 4-4, driving in three runs. Chase Lammers went 3-3. Turner Korth went 2-2 with a double and three RBI. Brady Steffen and Owen Heimes also had two hits each. Luke Reifenrath, Bode Noecker and Austin Arens each had a hit in the win.
In the nightcap, a 14-run third inning helped Hartington to a 19-3 victory.
Riley Arens doubled and singled, driving in two, and Dain Whitmire had a triple and two RBI for Hartington. Brady Steffen, Lammers, Feilmeier and Owen Heimes each had a hit in the win.
Feilmeier picked up the win, with Riley Arens striking out four in two innings of relief.
Korth picked up the win, striking out three in his two shutout innings of work.
Hartington, 6-8, hosts Elk Point-Jefferson on Thursday.
Beresford 6, Vermillion 3
BERESFORD — Beresford used a trio of two-run innings to claim a 6-3 victory over Vermillion in American Legion baseball action on Monday.
Jack Kratz went 2-4 with a home run for Vermillion. Drew Thelen doubled, and Rylan Craig and Willis Robertson each had a hit in the effort.
Sammy Ward took the loss, striking out six in his four innings of work. Gray Peterson pitched two innings of shutout relief.
Vermillion, 3-8, travels to Garretson on Saturday to face Garretson and Lake Norden in a triangular.
Yankton Lakers 15-11, Watertown 0-4
The Yankton Lakers survived a slow start to the nightcap to complete a sweep of the Watertown Black Sox in youth baseball action on Tuesday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.
In the opener, Michael Mors went 3-3 with a triple, a double and four RBI to lead Yankton to a 15-0 victory.
Jace McCorkell doubled and singled, driving in two, for Yankton. Connor Teichroew also had two hits and two RBI. Luke Bernatow also doubled. Rugby Ryken had a hit and three RBI, and Josh Sheldon and Drew Ryken each had a hit in the win.
Mors picked up the win, scattering three hits in the four-inning contest.
In the nightcap, Yankton scored in every inning after an early 4-0 deficit to claim an 11-4 victory.
Cody Oswald went 3-3 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored for Yankton. Rugby Ryken, Garrett Nelson, Teichroew, Isaiah Schelhaas, Cooper Grotenhuis and Bernatow each had a hit in the win.
Grotenhuis bounced back after the first inning, allowing one hit in his final 5 2/3 innings of work for the win.
The Lakers, 16-4, host the Bob Tereshinski Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The Lakers play Tabor (2 p.m.) and Huron (8 p.m.) on Saturday, and Wahoo, Nebraska (8 a.m.) and Sioux Falls East (4 p.m.) on Sunday.
S.F. West 7-1, Yankton Reds 4-11
The Yankton Reds bounced back from an opening game setback to win the nightcap 11-1, earning a split in youth baseball action on Tuesday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.
Landon Potts went 3-3 with three runs scored to lead Yankton in the nightcap. Tucker Gilmore went 2-3. Hunter Teichroew doubled. Lucas Kampshoff and Keenan Wagner each had a hit. Frankie In’t Veld added two runs scored and two RBI in the win.
Sean Turner pitched three innings, striking out three, for the win. Teichroew pitched a scoreless fourth, striking out two.
In the opener, West built a 6-0 lead, then held on for a 7-4 victory.
Potts went 2-3 with a double for Yankton. Wagner had two hits and two RBI. Austin Gobel, Owen Wishon, In’t Veld and Cohen Zahrbock each had a hit in the effort.
Zahrbock took the loss.
The Reds, 15-4, play in the Bob Deery Classic on Friday and Saturday in Yankton. The Reds will play Renner (2:30 p.m.) and Vermillion (6:30 p.m.) in Friday’s pool play action. The placing game is set for Saturday.
