MITCHELL — The Dell Rapids Mudcats pounded out 16 hits — including seven players with two hits each — in a 10-4 rout of Dimock-Emery in the opening round of the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Sunday in Mitchell.

Grant Olson had two doubles and three RBI, and Mark Houck went 2-4 with a double and four RBI for Dimock-Emery. Jimmy Bauer, Travis Peters, Aaron Johnson, Chad Hunt and Josh Roemen each had two hits, with Peters and Bauer each scoring twice. Nate Henry and Trevor Freudenthal each had a hit in the victory.

Jason Schmidt went 3-4 with two runs scored for Dimock-Emery. Phil Johnson doubled. Sam Pischke and Tyson Kayser each had a hit for the Raptors.

Jared Donahue struck out seven batters over six innings for the win. Blake Svoboda tossed three innings, striking out two, for the long-relief save. Johnson took the loss.

Four Corners 13, Madison 11

MITCHELL — Justin Lester went 4-5, Spencer Sarringar homered and Four Corners overcame seven errors to edge Madison 13-11 in Sunday’s opening round game of the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell.

Madison scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning and led 11-3 midway through the fifth inning. Four Corners responded with a nine-run bottom of the fifth to pull in front.

Jason Overweg had three hits for Four Corners, while Nathan Hainy doubled twice, and Sarringar and Kris Dozark both had two hits. Casey Schlechter got the win in relief of Jeremy Hand.

Nick Bird homered and drove in three runs for Madison, while Heith Williams, Jon Waba, Mitch McNary, Greg Biagi, Brian Miller and Jacob Giles all had two hits. Paul Clark took the loss.

Saturday

Canova 10, Akron 0

MITCHELL — Derek Miller tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out nine, as defending champion Canova blanked Akron 10-0 in eight innings in the opening round of the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Mitchell.

Justin Miller went 3-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored for Canova. Cole Gassman went 3-4 with a double. Jason Miller doubled and singled, driving in two. Trey Krier had a double and two runs scored. Jared Miller and Gavin Gassman each had a hit in the victory.

Nick Jacobs and Nick Meisinger each had two hits for Akron. Dan Smith added a hit for the Rebels.

Jacobs took the loss.

Canova advances to face Flandreau in the 5:30 p.m. game on Wednesday.

Garretson 15, Groton 0

MITCHELL — Jesse Brockhouse went 3-4 with a grand slam as Garretson rolled past Groton 15-0 in six innings in the opening round of the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Mitchell.

The game was scheduled to be the final contest on Friday. It was postponed to Saturday due to rain, and was played on Drake Field.

Nick Bruning went 2-4 with a double and three RBI for Garretson, which will face Menno on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Brett Fischer, Brad Ulmer, Nick Bonte, Brady Bonte and Derek Fischer each had two hits. Dustin Steckler added a double in the win.

Anthony Sipple doubled for Groton. Heath Giedt and Spencer Locke each had a hit in the effort.

Steckler pitched four innings for the win. Edwin Rodriguez took the loss.

Clark 3, Redfield 2

MITCHELL — An Andrew Magedanz two-run double in a three-run Clark sixth lifted the Traders to a 3-2 victory over Redfield in the opening round of the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Mitchell.

Zach Toben also doubled for Clark. Zack Puetz, Bryce DesLauriers and Kyle Braun each had a hit in the victory.

Kevin Krumm, Jared Kuehn, Nate Binger and Levi Logan each had a hit for Redfield.

Toben went the distance for the win, striking out eight. Justin Link took the loss, striking out nine in a complete game effort.

Clark advances to face Northville in the 7:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.

Northville 18, South Central 11

MITCHELL — Northville took advantage of 10 walks and nine South Central errors to claim an 18-11 victory over the Storm in the opening round of the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Mitchell.

Ethan Beyers went 4-5 with three RBI, and Kyle Nemec went 3-5 with a home run and five RBI for Northville. Cody Lefforge went 3-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Ryan Hoffman, Andrew Lefforge, Tyler Cunningham and Caleb Schentzel each had a hit in the victory.

Nathan Peterson picked up the win despite giving up 10 runs. Schentzel pitched 3 2/3 innings for the long-relief save. Taggart took the loss.
