The Yankton Fury Red overcame a first game setback to earn a split with the Vermillion Flamez in girls’ softball action on Tuesday at the Summit softball fields.
Yankton won the nightcap 4-2, as four different players had two hits each.
Hannah Sailer doubled twice, and Brooklyn Townsend had two hits and two RBI to lead Yankton. Izzy Wintz had two hits and two runs scored. Camryn Zoeller also had two hits. Annika Gordon, Regan Garry and Olivia Girard each had a hit in the victory.
Bailey Sample picked up the win, striking out 12 in the six-inning contest.
Vermillion scored six runs in the fourth inning and held on for a 9-5 victory in the opener.
Townsend went 2-2 with a triple for Yankton. Garry, Sailer and Wintz each doubled. Tori Vellek, Girard and Grace Brockberg each had a hit in the effort.
Garry took the loss in relief of Gordon, who struck out four in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Yankton plays in the South Dakota USA State Girls’ Fastpitch Tournament, beginning on Friday in Sioux Falls.
