The Yankton Black Sox bounced back from an opening game setback to earn a split with Sioux Falls West in baseball action on Wednesday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.

Yankton built a 3-0 lead and survived a late rally to claim the nightcap 3-2.

Dylan Prouty and Colton Potts each had two hits for Yankton. Jacob Larson doubled. Landon Loecker, Caeden Ekroth and Brayden Boese each had a hit in the win.

Sam Kampshoff went the distance in the win, striking out seven.

In the opener, Sioux Falls West used a five-run third inning to take control for an 8-1 victory.

Austin Pederson went 3-3 with a double and a RBI for Yankton. Paul McGlone had two hits. Prouty doubled and Larson added a hit in the effort.

Loecker took the loss, with McGlone pitching an inning of shutout relief.

The Black Sox, 8-13, host Sioux Falls East on Tuesday. Start time for the twinbill is 5 p.m.

S.F. East 6-15, Yankton Grey Sox 4-0

Sioux Falls East swept the Yankton Grey Sox in youth baseball action on Wednesday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.

In the opener, Sioux Falls used a four-run fifth to claim a 6-4 victory.

Alex Kleinsasser and John Rye each doubled for Yankton. Keagan Holmstrom, Jack Halstead, Wyatt Holmstrom and Cruz Maldonado each had a hit in the effort.

Keagan Holmstrom took the loss, striking out six in a complete game effort.

East scored nine runs in the third to pull away to a 15-0 victory in the nightcap.

Halstead, Wyatt Holmstrom and Kleinsasser each had a hit for Yankton.

Wyatt Holmstrom took the loss, striking out three in his two innings of work.

The Grey Sox co-host the Bob Deery Classic, Friday and Saturday in Yankton.

West Central 4-12, Alexandria 0-1

ALEXANDRIA — West Central used strong pitching to claim a doubleheader sweep of Alexandria in American Legion baseball action on Wednesday in Alexandria.

Three West Central pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory in the opener.

Six different players each had a hit for West Central, with Kaden Nolz, Micah Warrington and Tyler Lundborg each recording a hit and a RBI. Devin Garry, Broc Haldeman and Carter Healy each had a hit in the win.

Jonah Hofer doubled and singled for Alexandria. Reggie Slaba and Joey Feiner each had a hit.

Clay Habben pitched the first three innings of the six-inning contest, striking out three, for the win. Craig Lasley took the loss, striking out six in a complete game effort.

A seven-run fifth inning iced a 12-1 West Central win in the nightcap.

Garry went 3-4 with a double and three RBI for West Central. Habben tripled and doubled. Clayton Hanisch doubled and singled, driving in three. Haldeman, Nolz, Healy, Truman Dick and Micah Warrington each had a hit in the win.

Carter Dye had two hits for Alexandria. Slaba and Payden Haiar each had a hit.

Cooper Maras pitched three innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits, in the win. Garry struck out the side in a scoreless fifth. Jonah Hofer took the loss.

West Central, 5-4, travels to Colton on Tuesday. Alexandria hosts Parkston on Friday.
