Another International Event Targets Yankton

This Mount Marty College archer, back, pulls an arrow out of the target during a round of the NFAA National Outdoor Target Championships, held at the Easton Yankton Archery Complex. Yankton was awarded the 2010 World Archery Championships, announced this weekend in the Netherlands. Yankton, which hosted the World Archery Youth Championships in 2015 and the World Archery Indoor Championships in 2018, will host the World Archery Field Championships in 2020.

Once again, the world will be coming to Yankton.

Yankton was awarded the 2021 World Archery Championships during the World Archery Executive Board congress this weekend in Netherlands.

Yankton has previously hosted the World Archery Youth Championships in 2015 and the World Archery Indoor Championships in 2018 (the last of its kind), and will host the World Archery Field Championships in 2020.

“Archery and Yankton are inextricably linked. The city has rallied around two of our previous world championships and we expect a similarly high standard of event and the same incredible community spirit in 2021,” World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener said in Sunday’s release.

“While it may not be the largest or most populous place on the planet, Yankton may be the most passionate about our sport — and for the athletes, the audience and the atmosphere at the world championships, passion matters.”

The 2020 Field Championships will be held Sept. 15-20.
