CANISTOTA – The Viborg-Hurley Cougars extended their winning streak to five games on Monday night when they won a 62-52 victory over the Canistota Hawks in Canistota.

Sydney Voss led the Cougars to victory with 19 points and five rebounds and Denea Mach had nine points with five rebounds.

For the Hawks, Harley Cormany had 22 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

The Hawks will play again on Friday when they travel to Chester. The Cougars, meanwhile, will host Parker on Friday in Viborg.

Avon 57, Gregory 33

AVON – The Avon Lady Pirates cruised to a 57-33 victory over the Gregory Lady Gorillas on Monday night in Avon.

Tiffany Pelton led the Lady Pirates with 13 points and nine rebounds and Courtney Sees finished with 10 points. Also for Avon, Shalayne Nagel had a game-high 16 rebounds.

For the Lady Gorillas, Sydney Svatos had 11 points and nine rebounds, while Jessy Jo VanDerWerff scored 10 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Gregory will play again on Friday when they host Scotland. Avon, meanwhile, will host T-D/A on Friday.

Menno 54, Platte-Geddes 43

MENNO — Morgan Edelman scored a game-high 28 points and Jesse Munkvold posted a double-double to lead Menno past Platte-Geddes in girls’ basketball action on Monday.

Munkvold finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Menno (10-6). Edelman added five assists in the victory.

Regan Hoffman and Karly VanderWerff each had eight points for Platte-Geddes. VanderWerff also had eight rebounds and three steals.

Both teams return to action on Friday. Menno plays Burke in the Dakota Wesleyan/Culver’s Classic at Mitchell. Platte-Geddes hosts Bon Homme next.

Ethan 67, Wagner 40

WAGNER – The Ethan Rustlers used a strong fourth quarter to get a 67-40 victory over the Wagner Red Raiders on Monday night in Wagner.

The Rustlers outscored the Red Raiders 20-4 after being up just 11 after the third quarter. Hannah Bartscher had 25 points and five rebounds to help lead Ethan to their seventh straight win, while Ava Lingemann had 12 points. Jessica Bartscher also scored 10 points in the victory.

For Wagner, Deisha Medicine Horn finished with a team high 13 points and had five rebounds. Wagner will play again Tuesday at home against T-D/A. Ethan will look to keep its’ winning streak goin g on Thursday when they host Mt. Vernon/Plankinton.

Canton 55, Centerville 46

CENTERVILLE – The Canton C-Hawks won their first game of the season on Monday night, defeating the Centerville Tornadoes 55-46 in Centerville.

Tera Lease would have 11 points and six rebounds in the win for the C-Hawks, while Paige Schroedermeier finished with 11 points and six assists.

For the Tornadoes, Haley Meyer had a game-high 24 points to go along with six rebounds, while teammate Thea Gust scored 14 points in the loss. The Tornadoes will play Gayville-Volin on Friday in Centerville. Canton, meanwhile, will travel to Tea on Tuesday.

Elkhorn Valley 61, Niobrara-Verdigre 15

TILDEN, Neb. – The Elkhorn Valley Falcons continued their excellent season on Monday night, cruising to a 61-15 victory over the Niobrara-Verdigre Cougars in Tilden.

Olivia Nall led the way for the Falcons with 26 points while teammate Carney Black scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds.

The Cougars will play again on Tuesday in Atkinson against West Holt. Elkhorn Valley, meanwhile, will host Central Valley on Tuesday.

Colman-Egan 45, Baltic 26

COLMAN – Mackenzie Hemmer led the Colman-Egan Hawks to a 45-26 victory on Monday night, defeating the Baltic Lady Bulldogs in Colman.

Hemmer finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds in the victory for the Hawks, who are now 15-3 on the year. Braiden Westley would also score 18 points for Colman-Egan. For the Lady Bulldogs, Cami Artz finished with a team-high 10 points.

The Lady Bulldogs will have little time to rest, as they host Howard on Tuesday. The Hawks, meanwhile, will not play again until Friday when they travel to Lake Preston.
