Hole-In-One During SDGA Husband-Wife Tourn.

Yankton’s Dave Ewald shot a hole-in-one during the South Dakota Golf Association’s Husband-Wife golf championship on Sunday at Arrowhead Golf Course in Rapid City. Ewald made the ace on Hole No. 11, using a 7-iron. He and his wife Carla placed fifth in the fourth flight of the senior tournament.

RAPID CITY — Three flight champions and a hole-in-one highlighted Yankton participants in the South Dakota Golf Association’s Husband-Wife Championships, which concluded on Saturday at Arrowhead Golf Course in Rapid City.

Yankton’s Cindy and Steve Weiland won the first flight in the senior division, shooting a two-day score of 160 to win by two strokes.

In the senior second flight, Yankton’s Ken and Marsha Bertsch (175) finished ninth, with Yankton’s Bill and Lisa Berry (182) 11th, and Yankton’s Kevin and Tena Becker (185) 12th.

Yankton’s Steve and Yavonne Slowey won the senior third flight, shooting an 82 on the final day for a two-day score of 170. Yankton’s Don and Marla Neukirch were fourth (179), with Yankton’s Jamie and Merrick Monaghan (181) sixth.

Yankton’s Dan and Patti Eisenbraun won the senior fourth flight with a two-day score of 189. Yankton’s Chuck and Kathy Olsen (195) tied for third, with Yankton’s Carla and Dave Ewald (196) fifth. Yankton’s Clayton and Lynette Bruening (197) finished sixth, with Yankton’s Carla and Jim Schlingman (200) tied for seventh, Yankton’s Joe and Patti Vig (202) 10th, and Yankton’s Dan and Joan Lammers (217) 13th.

The fourth flight of senior competition included a hole-in-one by Yankton’s Dave Ewald. He made the ace on Hole No. 11, using a 7-iron.

In the open division first flight, Eric and Kendra Bailey of Parkston finished fourth with a 146. Danielle and Tyler Evenson of Hermosa were the overall champions at 132.

South Dakota Open

VERMILLION — Broc Everett of West Des Moines, Iowa, shot a final round 66 to earn top honors at the South Dakota Open golf tournament, which concluded on Sunday at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.

Everett finished the three-day event at 13-under 203, one stroke better than Carson Schaake of Omaha, Nebraska. Neil Johnson of River Falls, Wisconsin and Vinnie Murphy of Edgewood, Washington tied for third at 205.

Among those missing the cut were recent University of South Dakota standout Tommy Vining and Briar Cliff golf coach Ben Irlbeck.

The Dakotas Tour heads down Highway 50 to Yankton this week for the Fox Run Pro-Am, June 28-30 at Fox Run Golf Course.
