AMES, Iowa — Harriet Kaufman of Freeman claimed two golds and three other medals in her age bracket at the USA Track and Field National Masters Meet, held July 11-14 in Ames, Iowa.

Kaufman, age 79, won the women’s 75-79 year-old long jump with a mark of 1.85 meters, and ran as part of the winning 4x100-meter relay in the women’s 70-79 year-old division. She also claimed silver in the shot put (6.04 meters), bronze in the high jump (0.85 meters) and triple jump (2.25 meters), and finished fifth in the 100-meter dash.

David E. Ortman, a state 120-yard high hurdles champion for Freeman Academy in 1971, won the men’s 65-69 300-meter hurdles (47.30), earned silver in the 400-meter dash (1:00.54) and placed third in the 200-meter dash (26.98). The 66-year-old, who lives in Seattle, Washington, is also Kaufman’s nephew.
