BROOKINGS — The Yankton Gazelles went 2-2 in girls’ softball action on Saturday in Brookings.

Yankton split with both Watertown and Brookings on the day, winning the second game of each matchup.

Yankton hosts Mitchell today (Monday). Start time for the twinbill is 6 p.m. at Sertoma Park.

WATERTOWN 3, YANKTON 2: Maddi Spiering went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI to lead Watertown past Yankton 3-2.

Brooke Gronau went 2-3 with a double and a RBI in the win.

Elle Feser went 3-3 with a double and a RBI for Yankton, which outhit the Arrows 11-5. Paige Gullikson went 2-3 with a double. Lainie Keller also had two hits. Addison Binde and Jenna Cox each doubled, with Cox driving in a run. Faith Sparks and Olivia Larson each had a hit and a run scored in the effort.

Gronau picked up the win, striking out five. Lexi Madsen took the loss, also striking out five.

BROOKINGS 5, YANKTON 4: Brookings scored five runs in the final inning to rally past Yankton 5-4 on Saturdya.

Sydney Grenda homered and Jenna Eischens tripled for Brookings.

Olivia Larson went 3-3 with a RBI, and Elle Feser went 2-2 with a RBI for Yankton, which outhit Brookings 11-6. Jenna Cox went 2-3. Lainie Keller had a double and a run scored. Faith Sparks had a hit, a RBI and a run scored. Paige Gullikson and Grace Behrns each had a hit in the effort.

Annika Hawks picked up the win. Grace Behrns took the loss.

YANKTON 8, WATERTOWN 0: Yankton’s Grace Behrns tossed a two-hit shutout in an 8-0 victory over Watertown.

Elle Feser went 2-3 with a home run and two runs scored for Yankton. Addison Binde had two hits, two RBI and a run scored. Paige Gullikson posted a hit, two RBI and a run scored. Faith Sparks had a hit, a RBI and a run scored. Jenna Cox had a hit and Grace Behrns scored in the win.

Brooke Gronan and Macie Osthus had hits for Watertown.

Behrns struck out two in the win. Jocelyn Gosch took the loss.

YANKTON 6, BROOKINGS 1: Faith Sparks went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored as Yankton stopped Brookings 6-1 in the final game of the day.

Lainie Keller had a double and a RBI, and Elle Feser had a hit and two RBI for Yankton. Olivia Larson had a hit and a run scored. Jenna Cox had a hit and a RBI. Olivia Larson had a hit, and Annika Gordon drove in two runs in the win.

Sydney Grenda had two hits for Brookings.

Bailey Sample picked up the win.

Junior Varsity

Yankton 6-10-4, Watertown 0-5-0

BROOKINGS — The Yankton Gazelles went 3-0 against Watertown in JV girls’ softball action on Saturday in Brookings.

In the opener, Bailey Sample tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out 10, as Yankton won 6-0.

Olivia Girard and Kloey Ballert each had a hit, a RBI and a run scored for Yankton. Hannah Sailer and Paige Hatch each had a hit and a run scored. Chloe Vander Tuig had a hit and a RBI, Tori Vellek had a hit and Brooklyn Townsend scored twice in the victory.

In the second game, Hatch doubled and singled, scoring twice, in a 10-5 Yankton victory.

Sailer also had two hits for Yankton. Grace Brockberg had a triple and a run scored. Annika Gordon had a double, a RBI and a run scored. Girard had a hit, two RBI and a run scored. Vellek also had a hit. Townsend scored twice, Ballert had a run scored and a RBI, and Vander Tuig and Sample each scored in the win.

Gordon picked up the win, striking out six.

Hailey Lande tossed a complete game shutout, striking out four, as Yankton completed the sweep with a 4-0 decision.

Townsend went 3-3 with a RBI for Yankton. Girard had a hit, a RBI and a run scored. Gordon and Hatch each had a hit and a run scored. Lucky Mason also had a hit. Sailer scored a run, and Vander Tuig and Brockberg each had a RBI in the victory.

Yankton, 4-1, hosts Mitchell today (Monday).

Tri-Valley 9, Yankton JV-B 8

SIOUX FALLS —Tri-Valley edged Yankton JV-B in girls’ softball action on Sunday in Sioux Falls.

Lenae Wiersma went 3-3 with two runs scored for Yankton. Olivia Binde went 2-3 with a triple, a run scored and a RBI. Andrea Miller also had two hits. Payton Moser homered, driving in three. Kamelia Kopp and Mikayla Humpal each had a hit, a RBI and a run scored. Lucky Mason had a hit and a run scored. Teighlor Karstens scored a run in the effort.

Binde took the loss in relief, striking out four in 1 2/3 innings of work. Tori Hansen started, striking out three in her three innings of work.

Tea Area 9, Yankton JV-B 2

SIOUX FALLS — Tea Area used a five-run first inning to take control for a 9-2 victory over Yankton JV-B in girls’ softball action on Sunday in Sioux Falls.

Kamelia Kopp had two hits, and Kloey Ballert had a hit and a run scored for Yankton. Lenae Wiersma, Mikayla Humpal and Mia Donner each had a hit. Payton Moser drove in a run and Lucky Mason scored in the effort.

Binde took the loss, striking out two in her 2 2/3 innings of work.
