Gayville-Volin survived a third quarter surge by Burke-South Central to down the Cougars 50-35 in the Tri-Valley Conference Classic on Saturday at Yankton’s Laddie E. Cimpl Arena.
Gayville-Volin led 27-13 at the half, but the Cougars outscored the Raiders 16-10 in the third quarter to close the gap to eight, 38-29. The Raiders had a 13-6 edge in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Tristan Gustad had game-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds for Gayville-Volin. Jacob Hirsch and Coleby Rickford each had nine points in the win.
For Burke-South Central, Jaden Frank led the way with 10 points. Kray Person had five steals.
