IRENE — Irene jumped out to an early lead, then held off a late surge to beat Crofton 5-3 in South Central League amateur baseball action on Sunday.
Simon Healy had a home run and a single for Irene. Adam Gale had two hits. Marcus Van Driel added a home run in the win.
Tyler Koch had a three-run home run to account for Crofton’s scoring. Austin Hegge and Tyler Zimmerman each had two hits.
Matt Sees went the distance in the win. James Kaiser took the loss, also going the distance.
Both teams host Freeman next, Irene on Tuesday and Crofton on Thursday.

FREEMAN — The Tabor Bluebirds overcame 18 strikeouts to claim a 3-1 victory over Freeman in South Central League amateur baseball action on Sunday.
Colin Muth had three hits, and Cameron Guevara went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored for Tabor. Zach Sutera, Chris Sutera, Austin Koch and Andrew Roland each had a hit in the win.
Lee Scherschligt doubled and singled for Freeman. Phil Madsen had the other Black Sox hit.
Bryce Scieszinski struck out eight batters over seven innings for the win. Guevara came on in the eighth to pick up the save. Nate Broehm took the loss, striking out 16 batters in eight innings of work, with Madsen striking out two in an inning of relief.

GARRETSON — Garretson took control with a three-run second inning to claim a 5-2 victory over the Vermillion Grey Sox in amateur baseball action on Sunday.
Carter Kratz went 3-4 to lead Vermillion. Alex Mogensen and Hunter Christopherson each had two hits. Riley Johnson added a hit.
Derek Fischer picked up the win, striking out 14 in 7 1/3 innings of work. Mogensen took the loss, striking out four in his six innings of work.

Parkston 11, Redfield 2
PARKSTON — Three different players had two hits each as Parkston rolled past Redfield 11-2 in amateur baseball action on Sunday.
Billy Hamilton doubled twice, and Red Welch went 2-3 with a double and three RBI for Parkston. Pat Harris went 2-3 with two RBI. Dillon Stadlman had a hit and two RBI. Jeff Harris, Dan Bonte, Tyler Nolz and Dylan Mogck each had a hit in the win.
Stadlman picked up the win, striking out five in his five innings of work.
Parkston, 11-9, travels to Sioux Falls to face Harrisburg on Tuesday.
