CROFTON, Neb. — The Crofton Bluejays survived a scare by rallying past the Scotland Crue 10-9 in a South Central League amateur baseball makeup game Friday night in Crofton, Nebraska.
Scotland took a 9-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Crofton got within 9-4 in the bottom of the frame and then got within 9-8 after eight innings.
Tyler Zimmerman homered and singled twice for the Bluejays, who moved to 9-1 in the SCL and a half-game ahead of Yankton for first place. Austin Hegge and Jared Wiebelhaus both singled twice, and Colton Schieffer added a single.
Capp Bengston pitched the first seven innings, but James Kaiser got the win in relief.
For Scotland (2-8), Jeff Honner doubled twice and singled, and Scott Ulmer had three singles. Hunter Martin, Alex Caba and Dalton Mogck all singled. Martin took the loss in relief of Ryan Auch. The Crue committed eight errors.

IRENE — Derrik Nelson homered twice, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs as the Yankton Tappers routed Irene 17-2 in eight innings in South Central League amateur baseball action Thursday night in Irene.
Mason Townsend doubled twice and drove in four runs for Yankton (8-1), which is tied for first place atop the league standings with Crofton. Alex Mueller, Mitch Gullikson, Gabe Leon, Devin Gullikson and Mack Hollingsworth all had two hits.
Beau Lofink struck out 10 batters over six innings to get the win.
For Irene (1-7), Dustin Livingston doubled and singled, while Matt Sees, Adam Gale and Zach Berg all singled. Simon Healy took the loss.

MENNO — The Crofton Bluejays kept pace for first place in the South Central League thanks to a 12-6 victory over Menno in amateur baseball action Thursday night in Menno.
The game was tied 6-6 after six innings, but the Bluejays (8-1) scored three runs in each of the final two innings.
James Kaiser doubled twice and singled in the win, while Corey Roach and Scot Donner both doubled and singled twice. Tyler Zimmerman, Alec Martin and Austin Hegge all singled twice.
Roach pitched into the fifth inning, and Nick Hegge got the win in relief.
For Menno (5-4), Macon Oplinger singled twice. Doug Hall pitched eight innings and Tom Sattler was tagged with the loss.

VERMILLION — Thanks to a four-run bottom of the first inning, Vermillion went on to beat Tabor 10-6 in American Legion baseball action Thursday night in Vermillion.
Rylan Craig and Drew Thelen doubled for Vermillion, while Dylan Thelen scored twice and drove in two runs. Connor Saunders singled twice, while Jacob Chaussee and Sammy Ward each singled once.
Chaussee went the distance on the mound to get the win.
For Tabor, Christian Uecker doubled, singled and drove in two runs, while Josh Schmidt, Tanner Van Driel, Kaden Kozak and Zach Cuka all singled twice. Mace Merkwan doubled and John Kubal singled. Beau Rothschadl took the loss.
