NORTH SIOUX CITY — Dakota Valley scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Vermillion 5-3 in an American Legion baseball game Wednesday night in North Sioux City.
Jake Likness and Eric Johnson both doubled and singled for Dakota Valley, while Keaton Hensley also doubled and drove in two runs. Drew Addison got the win, with six strikeouts over three innings.
Vermillion was held to one hit, a Connor Saunders single. Dylan Thelen pitched into the sixth inning but was tagged with the loss.
S.F. East 10-20, Yankton Juniors 1-7
Sioux Falls East scored 30 runs to record a doubleheader sweep over Yankton in an American Legion Juniors baseball doubleheader Wednesday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium. East won by scores of 10-1 and 20-7.
In the opening game, Garren Heinert homered, and Kyle Kyja, Andrew Evenson and Logan Bakk all doubled.
Austin Wagner singled twice for Yankton, while Joe Gokie singled twice, Tony McGlone doubled, and Carson Haak and Tristan Redman singled. Jayden Lightner took the loss.
In the second game, Sioux Falls East scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to the 13-run victory.
Yankton (7-9) got a pair of singles from Redman and Cameron Zahrbock, and singles from Wagner, Gokie, Lightner, Haak and McGlone. Haak took the loss.
Lakers 5-2, Harrisburg 1-11
HARRISBURG — Harrisburg salvaged a doubleheader split with Yankton in an American Legion Juniors youth baseball doubleheader Wednesday in Harrisburg. Yankton won the opener 5-1, but Harrisburg won the second game 11-2.
In the opening game, Drew Ryken singled twice and scored twice, and Yankton pitchers Cooper Grotenhuis and Connor Teichroew combined to allow four hits in seven innings.
Mac Ryken, Rugby Ryken, Garrett Nelson and Cody Oswald all singled for the Lakers.
In game two, Harrisburg broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run bottom of the third inning.
Isaiah Schelhaas tripled for the Lakers, while Mac Ryken, Drew Ryken, Oswald and Luke Bernatow all singled. Oswald, the second of three pitchers, took the loss.
Yankton is now 12-3 on the season.
Brandon Valley 16-20, Black Sox 0-2
Brandon Valley exploded for 36 runs to record a doubleheader sweep of the Yankton Black Sox in youth baseball action Wednesday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium. Brandon Valley won by scores of 16-0 and 20-2.
In the first game, Brandon Valley took control with a 10-run top of the second inning and its pitcher held Yankton to a Paul McGlone single.
Dylan Prouty took the loss for Black Sox.
In the second game, Jacob Larson tripled, Sam Kampshoff doubled and Landon Loecker singled for Yankton. Colton Potts took the loss.
The Black Sox are now 4-9 on the season.
