A pair of area football coaches will be recognized at halftime of Saturday’s South Dakota All-Star Football game in Vermillion, by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.

Bon Homme’s Matt Aarstad will be presented the 2019 Assistant Coach of the Year for 8th grade and under, while Gayville-Volin’s Tom Rice is one of six coaches that will be presented with a 30-year coaching award.

The Assistant Coaches of the Year for grades 9-12 are Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Ed Whiting (Class 11AAA), Huron’s Mike Carda (11AA), Dell Rapids’ Craig Jorgensen (11A), Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan’s Tim Hawkins (11B), Kimball-White Lake’s Thomas Konechne (9AA), Timber Lake’s Ryan Gimbel (9A and Castlewood’s Kyle Kooima (9B).

Also set to receive 30-year coaching awards are Elkton-Lake Benton’s Tal Farnham, Dell Rapids’ Jorgensen, Sunshine Bible Academy’s Jamie McClain, Wall’s Wayne Shull and Groton Area’s Shaun Wanner.

The All-Star Scholarship award winners are Aberdeen Central’s Mason Flakus and Watertown’s Max Sonne.
