Six area programs, including three with full teams, will be represented on Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen as the South Dakota State Class A Girls’ Golf Tournament begins on Monday.
Vermillion, Parkston and Elk Point-Jefferson will compete as teams in the 95-golfer field. Parkston finished third as a team a year ago, with Elk Point-Jefferson 13th. Both return four golfers from last year’s tournament team.
For Parkston, Ellie Wiedenbach (16th) and Tylee Neugebauer (tied for 22nd) each finished in the top 25. Hannah Jackson finished 56th. Dani Norden, also on the state tournament roster, was unable to complete the tournament. Keelie Konfrst rounds out the Trojans’ roster.
Aubrie Franken led EPJ in the 2018 tournament, tying for 44th. Sydney Bousquet (tied for 72nd), Sophia Johnson (77th) and Emily Henze (82nd) also competed at state for the Huskies. Bailey Berghult completes the EPJ tournament roster in 2019.
Alex Carr, who finished ninth a year ago, is the lone returning state tournament golfer for Vermillion. She is joined this year by Kensie Mulheron, Mackenzie Brady, Megan Brady and Stephanie Carr.
Wagner, Beresford and Dakota Valley will also have participants in the field.
Both of Wagner’s state tournament golfers competed at state a year ago, with Caitlyn Stimpson tying for 11th. Emilea Cimpl tied for 29th in the 2018 event.
Beresford’s Maiya Muller and Dakota Valley’s Ryley Meyer are also competing at state.
The tournament runs through Tuesday.
