MITCHELL — Menno’s bid for a state tournament victory is on hold.

The first round game between the Mad Frogs and Clear Lake on Friday night at the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell was delayed by weather after four innings.

The game will resume today (Saturday) at 1 p.m. at Drake, which is adjacent to Cadwell Park. The Groton/Garretson game will follow at Drake, while the four games at Cadwell will be played as scheduled.

The winner of the Menno/Clear Lake game advances to Tuesday’s 5:30 p.m. second round matchup against Groton or Garretson.

Menno got rolling early on Friday night, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning against Clear Lake — a member of the Eastern Dakota League. The first run came on a Macon Oplinger sacrifice fly and two batters later, a Tate Bruckner grounder was bobbled by an infielder to bring in a second run.

The Mad Frogs tacked on another run on another Clear Lake error in the second inning.

Oplinger, Menno’s starting pitcher, surrendered two hits and struck out three batters over his four innings.
