ALEXANDRIA – The Gayville-Volin Raiders left Alexandria as the champion of the Early Bird Tournament, as they defeated the Freeman Flyers 25-15, 16-25, 25-15.

The Raiders were led by Sam Olson (12 kills), and Kayla VanOsdel (11 kills), while Keeley Larson dished out 32 assists. Olivia Petrick (20 digs), and Molly Larson (19 digs) also helped contribute for the Raiders in the championship match. The Flyers were led by Emily Miller with a match-high 14 kills.

Next Tuesday, the Raiders will go on the road to face Canistota, while Freeman will travel to Wakonda to face Irene-Wakonda.

ALEXANDRIA – The Avon Lady Pirates took home third place at the Early Bird Tournament after they defeated the Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder 25-12, 25-13.

The Lady Pirates were led by Madisyn Cameron with 10 assists, and Tiffany Pelton with 6 kills. The Thunder were led by Melanie Mudder with 13 digs.

Next Tuesday, Avon will play Parkston at home, while AC/DC will play Bon Homme in Tyndall.

ALEXANDRIA – Platte-Geddes defeated Hanson 15-25, 26-23, 25-21 in the 5th place match of the Early Bird Tournament.

Karly VanDerWerff (8 kills), Cadence Van Zee (7 kills), and Haley Hoffman (10 assists) helped lead the Black Panthers. The Beaverettes meanwhile were led by Elizabeth Arend (7 kills), and Abby Kortan (12 assists, 4 ace serves).

Hanson will play again on September 3rd at home against Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Platte-Geddes, meanwhile, will face Todd County in Platte on September 3rd.

The Blackhawks were led by Brooke Doering with 7 kills, while Freeman Academy/Marion was led by Josie Epp with nine digs.

On September 3rd, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket will be back in Alexandria to face Hanson, while Freeman Academy/Marion will take on Corsica-Stickney. That game will be played at Freeman Academy.

ALEXANDRIA – Hanson defeated Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 25-11, 25-18 in the consolation match at the Early Bird Tournament.

Abby Kortan led the Beaverettes offense with 14 assists, while Jada Tuttle (16 digs), and Morgan Huber (6 kills) helped move Hanson to the 5th place match. The Blackhawks were led by Cassidy Slykhuis and Mariah Jost with three kills each.

RANDOLPH, Neb. — Hartington Cedar Catholic made quick work of Homer, scoring a 25-12, 25-15, victory over the Knights in the Randolph volleyball Triangular on Thursday.

Abby Hochstein had 11 kills and two ace serves, Laney Kathol had five blocks for Cedar Catholic. Aiden Wortmann posted 20 assists and two ace serves. Megan Heimes had seven digs and two ace serves in the win.

Cedar Catholic travels to Lutheran High Northeast on Tuesday.

VERMILLION — Abby Brunsing posted 16 kills, 10 digs and two blocks as Wagner downed Vermillion 25-20, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23 in prep volleyball action on Thursday.

Emilea Cimpl had 36 assists and nine digs, and Lizzie Tyler had five kills, 14 digs and four ace serves for Wagner. Paige Petry posted seven kills, eight digs and six ace serves. Maesa Dvorak had six kills and 14 digs. Kayli Kocer added six kills, 12 digs and two blocks in the win.

Toria Andre had 12 kills, 17 digs, three blocks and three ace serves to lead Vermillion. Emily Stockwell posted nine kills. Lexie Saunders had 24 assists and nine digs. Kennedy Pratt posted 11 assists and Shandie Ludwig added 16 digs and five ace serves in the effort.

Wagner, 1-0, plays in the Parkston Early Bird Classic on Saturday. Vermillion, 1-1, plays in the Canton Invitational on Saturday.

Vermillion won the JV and ‘C’ matches, each 2-0.

CROFTON, Neb. – Crofton defeated Hartington-Newcastle 25-12, 20-25, 27-25, 25-18. The Lady Wildcats were led by Kayden Jueden win 20 kills, and Alivia Morten with 18 assists.

Hartington Newcastle will play again in the Winside Quad on Saturday.

BERESFORD – In a Big East Conference matchup, the Beresford Watchdogs swept the Garretson Blue Dragons 25-12, 25-20, 28-26.

Lily Ranschau had 10 kills and Kenzie Northrup had 13 digs for the Blue Dragons. The Watchdogs were led by Jessica Wiles with 12 kills.

Garretson will play next in the Canton Tournament on August 31st, while Beresford will travel to face Baltic on September 3rd.

The Cavaliers were led by McKenzie Carson (10 kills), and Makayla Kelley (7 ace serves). The Cougars were led by Nevaeh Ronke (8 kills), and Rachel Christensen (19 assists).

Bon Homme will play again next Tuesday against AC/DC in Tyndall, while Viborg-Hurley will take on Scotland next Thursday in Viborg.

PARKSTON — Parkston had five players notch seven kills or more to claim a 21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-9 victory over Tripp-Delmont-Armour in prep volleyball action on Thursday.

Brielle Bruening had nine kills and two blocks to lead the balanced Parkston offense. Sydney Wickersham, Amber Albrecht, Maggie Baumgart and Tiah Holzbauer each had seven kills in the win.

Also for Parkston, Izzy Hohn had 32 assists and three ace serves. Lizzy Kinneberg had 14 digs. Albrecht and Allison Ziebart each had 10 digs, with Ziebart also posting three ace serves. Wickersham and Holzbauer each had three ace serves in the victory.

Faith Werkmeister had seven kills and three ace serves to lead TDA. Bailey Spaans posted 13 assists. Kianna Payer had six kills and nine digs. Ashlee Gerber had five kills, Ally Bertram had 12 digs and Emma Fink had nine digs in the effort.

Parkston, 1-1, hosts its annual Early Bird Tournament on Saturday. TDA, 0-1, travels to Menno on Tuesday.

Parkston won the JV match 25-17, 25-19.

Harley Cormany (12 kills, 18 digs) led Canistota, while Hannah Parry also had eight kills for the Hawks. The C-Hawks were led by Maddi Ask (5 ace serves), Allison Bently (6 kills), and Madison Fossum (11 assists.)

Both teams will play next in the Canton Triangular on Saturday.

Harrisburg was led by Hallie Mertz (6 kills), and Moriseen Samuels (6 kills). For Roosevelt, Liz Denevan had 28 assists, while Tatum Wilson finished with a match-high 10 kills.

Next Tuesday, Sioux Falls Roosevelt will take on Sioux Falls Washington at home, while Harrisburg will host Watertown.
