MITCHELL — Yankton Post 12 earned a doubleheader sweep at Mitchell in American Legion baseball action on Thursday.
In the opener, Yankton scored four runs in the eighth to rally to a 10-6 victory.
Matthew Mors had two hits and four RBI, and Ethan Wishon had two hits and three RBI for Yankton. Sam Mooney also had two hits. Caid Koletzky doubled, and Michael Drotzmann, Levi Wiersma, Miles Carda and Rex Ryken each had a hit in the win.
Brady Hawkins went 2-4 with a triple and two RBI for Mitchell. Max Schoenfelder and Ryan McGinnis each had a hit and two RBI. Peyton Nash added a hit and three runs scored.
Wishon pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three, for the win. Drotzmann started, striking out seven in his six innings of work. Koby Larson took the loss in relief.
In the nightcap, Drotzmann went 3-4 with a double to lead Yankton to a 6-4 victory.
Mors doubled and singled, and Wishon had two hits for Yankton. Bailey Sage had the other Yankton hit.
Hawkins and Larson each had two hits for Mitchell. Peyton Nash, Schoenfelder and McGinnis each had a hit.
Wiersma picked up the win, striking out six in his six innings of work. Wishon struck out two in an inning of relief. Calvin Hegg took the loss, striking out five in his six innings of work.
Yankton, 17-7, travels to Vermillion on Monday. Start time for the twinbill is 5 p.m. at Prentis Park. Mitchell, 15-9, takes on Pierre on Sunday.
Watertown 10-5, Yankton Juniors 4-13
WATERTOWN — Yankton bounced back from an opening setback to earn a doubleheader split against Watertown in American Legion Juniors baseball action on Thursday in Watertown.
Yankton used a trio of big innings to claim a 13-5 decision in the nightcap.
Carson Haak went 3-3 with a triple, two doubles and three RBI for Yankton. Joe Gokie went 3-4 with a double. Tony McGlone doubled twice. Austin Wagner had a double and three RBI. Cameron Zahrbock, Jayden Lightner, Kaden Luellman and Tristan Redman each had a hit in the win.
Lightner picked up the win, striking out four in his 4 2/3 innings of work. Luellman struck out three in 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
In the opener, Watertown scored 10 unanswered runs over three innings to claim a 10-4 victory.
Gokie had two hits for Yankton. Zahrbock, Lightner, Luellman and Matt Hein each had a hit, with Hein driving in two runs.
Haak took the loss, striking out three in his five innings of work.
Yankton, 9-11, travels to Sioux Falls West on Monday. Start time for the twinbill is 5 p.m.
Hartington 11, Elk Point-Jefferson 3
HARTINGTON, Neb. — Hartington took control with a seven-run second inning on the way to an 11-3 victory over Elk Point-Jefferson in American Legion baseball action on Thursday.
Turner Korth had two doubles and three RBI to lead Hartington. Brady Steffen doubled and singled, posting two RBI and three runs scored. Ted Bengston also had two hits. Austin Arens and Owen Heimes each doubled. Chase Lammers, Seth Wiebelhaus, Riley Arens and Luke Reifenrath each had a hit in the win.
Bryce Moore doubled and singled for EPJ. Andrew Nearman also doubled. Hunter Goehring and Chris Nelson each had a hit.
Dain Whitmire picked up the win, striking out three in his four innings of work. Austin Arens pitched a scoreless fifth. Tyler Leif took the loss.
Hartington, 7-9, hosts Madison, Nebraska, today (Friday).
Ponca 4, Wisner-Pilger 0
PONCA, Neb. — Matt Logue tossed a complete game three-hitter, striking out seven, as Ponca blanked Wisner-Pilger 4-0 in American Legion baseball action on Wednesday.
Brandon Kneifl went 3-4, and Carson Fox and Cayden Phillips each had two hits for Ponca. Logue tripled and Gage McGill added a hit in the win.
Korrell Koehlmous, Keegan Ruskamp and Brady Lund each had a hit for Wisner-Pilger.
Ruskamp took the loss, striking out seven.
Ponca, 6-7, hosts Hooper-Scribner today (Friday).
