Bucks Second In Preseason Polls

The Bucks open the 2019 season at home against Spearfish on Aug. 30.

The Yankton Bucks were picked second in both the South Dakota Media and South Dakota Football Coaches Association preseason football polls, announced Monday.

Pierre drew the top pick in both polls, followed by Yankton and Brookings.

Brandon Valley ranked first in both polls, with Roosevelt finishing second in the coaches poll and O'Gorman finishing second in the media poll.

In Class 11A, Tea Area was picked first in both polls. Dakota Valley was the second pick in the media poll. Madison was second in the coaches poll, with Dakota Valley fifth.

Bridgewater-Emery-Ethan claimed the top spot in both Class 11B polls. St. Thomas More was second in the media poll, with Winner second in the coaches poll. Beresford received a vote in the media poll.

Both polls had defending champion Bon Homme as the top pick in Class 9AA. Viborg-Hurley was fifth in both polls. Platte-Geddes received a vote in the media poll.

Class 9A and Class 9B were the two classes where the two polls did not agree on a preseason favorite.

In Class 9A, the media picked Sully Butte over Canistota-Freeman, with the coaches favoring Canistota-Freeman over Sully Buttes.

In Class 9B, the media favored Harding County in a ballot where six different teams drew first place votes. Wolsey-Wessington - sixth in the media poll - was the coaches favorite, with Harding County fifth. Colome was second in both polls.

Play in Class 11B and the 9-man classes begins on Friday, Aug. 23, with the bigger classes opening on Friday, Aug. 30. The state finals are set for Nov. 14-15 in Brookings.
