VERMILLION — A no-hitter from Bailey Sample and a three-hit game by Brooklyn Townsend helped Yankton Fury Red to a doubleheader sweep over the Vermillion Flamez in youth softball action on Thursday.
In the opener, a pair of six-run innings and a stellar pitching performance helped Yankton to a 13-0 victory.
Tori Vellek and Townsend each went 2-3 with three RBI for Yankton. Annika Gordon went 2-3 with two RBI. Grace Brockberg, Paige Hatch and Camryn Zoeller each doubled. Izzy Wintz had a hit and two RBI, and Sample added a hit in the win.
Sample struck out nine and walked just one in the four-inning no-hitter.
Townsend went 3-3 with a triple as Yankton won the nightcap 8-4.
Gordon tripled and doubled, scoring twice. Regan Garry and Zoeller each doubled. Brockberg and Vellek each had a hit and two RBI. Sample added a hit in the win.
Garry pitched four innings of relief, striking out five. Gordon started, striking out three in her two innings of work.
Yankton, 15-7, plays in the Yankton Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
