Two-time South Dakota Sportswriter of the Year Jeremy Hoeck has again been nominated for the award, as presented by the National Sports Media Association.

Hoeck won the honor for 2015 and 2016, is one of two finalists. Mitchell’s Ryan Deal, who won in 2017 and 2018, is the other finalist.

All three of the South Dakota Sportscaster of the Year finalists have ties to Yankton. Longtime KYNT sportscaster Scott Kooistra, John Thayer of the Coyote Radio Network and Tyler Merriam of the South Dakota State University Radio Network are the finalists. While Merriam is based in Brookings, the flagship station for the SDSU Radio Network is Yankton’s WNAX.

Winners will be announced during the second week of January. Awards will be presented during the NSMA’s 61st annual awards weekend, June 27-29.
