Big innings in each end of a youth baseball doubleheader helped the Yankton Reds sweep Harrisburg on Thursday afternoon at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium. Yankton won by scores of 11-1 and 15-0.
In the first game, the Reds scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control.
Austin Gobel singled twice, scored twice and drove in two runs for Yankton, while Owen Wishon singled twice and Lucas Kampshoff scored twice. Landon Potts and Tysom Prouty both singled.
Sean Turner struck out eight batters in five innings to get the win on the mound.
In the second game, another big inning helped the Reds pull away, as they used a nine-run bottom of the second inning.
Gobel singled three times and scored three runs, while Wishon singled twice and drove in two runs. Kampshoff, Cohen Zahrbock, Hunter Teichroew and Fankie Int Veld all scored two runs. Teichroew also had three RBI and Potts doubled.
Potts was the winning pitcher, with two strikeouts in three innings.
Brandon Valley 6-3, Yankton Black Sox 2-4
BRANDON — The Yankton Black Sox salvaged a doubleheader split with Brandon Valley in youth baseball action Thursday evening in Brandon. Brandon Valley won game one 6-2 and Yankton won game two 4-3.
In the opener, Brandon Valley used three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pad a 3-1 lead.
For the Black Sox, Paul McGlone, Jacob Larson, Landon Loecker and Curtis Steppat all singled, while Dylan Prouty and Loecker drove in runs. Sam Kampshoff took the loss.
In the second game, Austin Pederson, Larson, Steppat, Caeden Ekroth and Triston Spears all had two hits for Yankton, while Ekroth scored twice. Loecker was the winning pitcher.
The Black Sox are now 4-5 on the season.
