SIOUX FALLS — The Yankton Bucks boys’ hockey team opened the 2019-20 varsity season with an 8-3 loss to Sioux Falls II on Saturday.
Sioux Falls, which led 5-0 after one period, had two goals each from Thomas Clinton and Marcus Halling. Clinton also had an assist.
Zachary Weber had two goals and an assist for Yankton. Thomas Wiener also scored a goal. Gaige Koster added an assist.
Ryan Flanagan made 21 saves in goal for Sioux Falls. Christopher Sternhagen stopped 30 shots for Yankton.
Yankton, which had its Sunday match with Sioux Falls I postponed, hosts Oahe on Sunday, Dec. 8. The match will be the home opener for the Bucks.
Sioux Falls I beat Yankton 9-5 in JV action on Saturday. No match information was made available. The Junior Bucks host Oahe on Dec. 8.
Yankton 4, Sioux Falls II 1
SIOUX FALLS — Yankton scored three third period goals to beat Sioux Falls II in Bantam hockey action on Saturday. The match was the season opener for the Miracle.
Ashton Renken scored twice to lead Yankton. Tye Brown and Oakley Kafka each scored a goal. Tyrell Anderson had two assists, and Wyatt Johnson and Brady Blom each had an assist in the victory.
Kaleb Lindersmith scored for Sioux Falls.
Keenan Wagner stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced in goal to pick up the win. Cullen Pollard made 23 saves for Sioux Falls.
Yankton, which had its Sunday match at Aberdeen I postponed, is off until a Dec. 21 matchup against Sioux Falls I. That match will serve as the home opener for the Miracle.
