HURLEY — Brooklyn Brandriet scored 23 points and two teammates also reached double figures as Viborg-Hurley defeated Alcester-Hudson 60-39 in girls’ basketball action Monday in Hurley.

NeVaeh Ronke added 12 points, five rebounds and five steals for Viborg-Hurley, while Coral Mason had 11 points and four assists.

Also for the hometown Cougars (6-3), Sydney Voss scored eight points.

In the loss for Alcester-Hudson (3-5), Elizabeth Hallaway scored 12 points, Abby Walth had eight points and Elly Doering added five points.

On Thursday, Viborg-Hurley hosts Gayville-Volin in Viborg and Alcester-Hudson visits Akron-Westfield in Akron, Iowa.

WAUSA, Neb. — Lutheran High Northeast built a 40-15 halftime lead on the way to a 66-31 victory over Niobrara-Verdigre in the girls’ championship of the Wausa Post-Holiday Tournament, Saturday in Wausa, Nebraska.

Mia Wiederin scored 14 points and Becca Gebhardt had 12 points for LHNE, which had 11 players score in the contest.

Emily Parks led Niobrara-Verdigre with 11 points. Bree Breithaupt had four steals.

LHNE, 5-7, travels to Howells-Dodge today (Tuesday). Niobrara-Verdigre, 5-8, hosts Wynot today in Niobrara.
