SIOUX FALLS — Yankton bounced back from an opening game setback to earn a split with Sioux Falls East in American Legion Juniors baseball action on Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Yankton scored in all five innings to claim a 10-6 victory in the nightcap.

Joe Gokie went 2-3, and Trevor Fitzgerald and Jayden Lightner each doubled for Yankton. Fitzgerald scored three runs drove in two, while Lightner scored twice.

Also for Yankton, Austin Wagner had a hit and two runs scored. Carson Haak and Tony McGlone each had a hit in the effort.

Fitzgerald pitched three innings of relief for the win.

East claimed the opener 4-3.

Gokie and Lightner each went 2-3 with a double for Yankton. Cameron Zahrbock also had a hit. McGlone drove in two runs in the effort.

Tristan Redman went the distance in the loss.

Yankton, 11-17, travels to Brookings on Monday, July 8.

Brandon Valley 8-8, Lakers 5-2

BRANDON — Brandon Valley cooled off a hot-hitting Yankton Lakers squad, earning a doubleheader sweep in youth baseball action on Tuesday.

In the opener, Brandon Valley used a pair of three-run innings to claim an 8-5 victory.

Cody Oswald went 3-4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored for Yankton. Rugby Ryken went 2-4 with a triple and two RBI. Michael Mors also had a triple and two RBI. Luke Bernatow also had a triple, Drew Ryken doubled, and Cooper Grotenhuis and Mac Ryken each had a hit in the effort.

Connor Teichroew took the loss.

Brandon Valley scored six runs in the sixth to ice an 8-2 victory in the nightcap.

Rugby Ryken doubled and singled, scoring twice, for Yankton. Garrett Nelson had a hit and two RBI. Teichroew and Jace McCorkell each had a hit.

Drew Ryken took the loss.

Yankton, 22-7, is off until July 9 at Brookings.

Renner 18, Grey Sox 11

Renner topped the Yankton Grey Sox 18-11 in youth baseball action on Tuesday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium. The game went eight innings and the second scheduled game was canceled due to the length of the game.

John Rye went 5-5 with three runs scored for Yankton. Wyatt Holmstrom doubled and singled, scoring three times and driving in two runs. Jack Halsted also had two hits. Koltor Feilmeier had a double and two RBI. Rayner Roig, Keagan Holmstrom and Alex Kleinsasser each had a hit. Chase Howe scored twice in the effort.

Feilmeier took the loss. Halsted struck out 10 batters in five innings of relief.

The Grey Sox are off until a July 9 home doubleheader against Brandon Valley.

Reds 5-2, S.F. East 3-6

SIOUX FALLS — The Yankton Reds split a youth baseball doubleheader with Sioux Falls East on Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Lucas Kampshoff had two hits and two RBI as Yankton claimed the opener 5-3.

Tucker Gilmore had a hit and two RBI for the Reds. Austin Gobel, Landon Potts and Cohen Zahrbock each had a hit in the win.

Owen Wishon pitched six innings, allowing one earned run, for the win. Kampshoff pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out two, for the save.

East scored five runs in the fifth inning to claim a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.

Frankie In’t Veld went 3-3 for Yankton. Potts, Kampshoff, Zahrbock and Payton Peterson each had a hit.

Peterson took the loss.

The Reds, 22-8, are off until a July 9 doubleheader at Huron.
