TABOR — Tabor took an early lead, then continued to add on late to claim an 8-0 victory over Alexandria in the Region 4B American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in Tabor.
Josh Schmidt doubled to lead Tabor. Mace Merkwan had a hit and two runs scored. Joey Slama, John Kubal and Carter Uecker each had a hit in the victory.
Reggie Slaba had both Alexandria hits.
Christian Uecker struck out eight batters over five innings of work for the win. Craig Lasley went the distance in the loss, striking out eight.
Tabor plays Chamberlain today (Thursday) at 8 p.m. Alexandria is off until Friday, when it will face either Parkston or McCook-Miner.
Chamberlain 8, Parkston 7
TABOR — Chamberlain scored eight unanswered runs, including five in the top of the sixth, to claim an 8-7 victory over Parkston in the Region 4B American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in Tabor.
Cole Hickey, Remington Rossow and Javen Holan each had two hits for Chamberlain, with Hickey driving in two runs. Caden Lenz doubled. Jake Mutzinger had a hit and two RBI. Max Donovan, Drayton Priebe, Carter Collins and Gavin Saxton each had a hit in the victory.
Blake Moke went 3-4 with a double for Parkston. Landon Sudbeck doubled and singled, scoring twice. Jace Bridges also had two hits. Nate Boettcher scored twice and Nathan Doering added a hit in the effort.
Lenz picked up the win, striking out six in his five innings of work. Priebe pitched the final two innings, striking out three, for the save. Sudbeck took the loss, striking out five in his 5 2/3 innings of work.
Chamberlain will play Tabor today (Thursday) at 8 p.m. Parkston will face McCook-Miner in an elimination game today at 5:30 p.m.
Alexandria 5, McCook-Miner 4
TABOR — Alexandria rallied from a 4-0 deficit, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, to claim a 5-4 victory over McCook-Miner in the opening game of the Region 4B American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in Tabor.
Reggie Slaba and Austin Stoltz each had two hits for Alexandria. Peyton Schroeder, Payden Haiar, Craig Lasley and Trey Christensen each had a hit in the victory.
Isaac Feldhaus had two hits for McCook-Miner. Sam Gillespie, Jackson Fiegen and Collin Kolbeck each had a hit.
Christensen threw one pitch, hit for a double play in the top of the seventh, to pick up the win. Trent Kingsbury started, striking out seven in his six innings of work. Mitch Krarmer took the loss, striking out six in his 6 2/3 innings of work.
McCook-Miner plays in an elimination game against Parkston today (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m.
Lennox 10, Vermillion 4
ELK POINT — Ray Williams went 3-3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored to lead Lennox past Vermillion 10-4 in the Region 3B American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in Elk Point.
J.D. Kirchner, a Mount Marty recruit, had two hits and two RBI for Lennox. Tyson Stoebner also had two hits. Zach Leisinger and Quincy Ihnen each had a hit in the victory.
Jack Kratz and Connor Saunders had the two Vermillion hits.
Brock Anderson pitched six innings, striking out eight, for the win. Sammy Ward took the loss.
Lennox advances to face Elk Point-Jefferson today (Thursday) at 5 p.m. Vermillion plays either Beresford or Dakota Valley in an elimination game at 7:30 p.m.
Elk Point-Jefferson 4, Dakota Valley 3
ELK POINT — Elk Point-Jefferson scored on a Chris Nelson two-out single in the top of the ninth, then held on for a 4-3 victory over Dakota Valley in the Region 3B American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in Elk Point.
Dakota Valley led 3-1 after three innings, but EPJ scored twice in the sixth to send the game into extra innings.
Tyler Leif and Andrew Nearman each doubled and singled, with Nearman scoring twice, for EPJ. Hunter Goehring, Tyler Goehring and Nelson each had a hit in the victory.
Samuel Otten had two hits for Dakota Valley. Jevin Kratz, Eric Nelson and Keaton Hensley each had a hit.
Skyler Swatek pitched five innings of two-hit shutout relief, striking out three, for the win. Tyler Goehring started, striking out four in his four innings of work. Kratz took the loss.
EPJ advances to the 5 p.m. game today (Thursday). Dakota Valley plays Beresford in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. today.
Vermillion 7, Beresford 4
ELK POINT — Vermillion rallied from an early 4-0 deficit, scoring five runs in the sixth to claim a 7-4 victory over Beresford in the opening game of the Region 3B American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in Elk Point.
Jacob Chaussee doubled and singled, driving in three, to leacd Vermillion. Drew Thelen and Sammy Ward also doubled and singled, with Thelen driving in two and Ward scoring twice. Willis Robertson tripled. Dylan Thelen had a hit and two runs scored. Jack Kratz and Nick Roob each had a hit in the victory.
Tyler Kropuenske had two hits to lead Beresford. Zach Erickson doubled. Beau VanGelder added a hit and two RBI in the effort.
Chaussee pitched 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief, striking out three, for the win. Dylan Thelen started, striking out six in his 4 2/3 innings of work. Jack Bickett took the loss, striking out seven in his 5 1/3 innings of work.
