A letter from Ebenezer Scrooge to Sen. John Thune …
Sen. John Thune, your St. Patrick’s Day Op-Ed statement states well the urgent need to repeal Obamacare: “The first step in this process, though, is ripping out the old law root and branch. Leaving it intact would be like treating a broken arm with a Band-Aid, two ibuprofen, and a pat on the back.” (“It’s Time to Turn the Page on Obamacare,” Thune, Senate Website, March 17).
A vital part of the uprooting process is to endorse the GOP proposal to impose work requirements on able-bodied Medicaid beneficiaries. I join with your colleagues in Congress and ask: And the Union workhouses. Are they still in operation? Medicaid beneficiaries who are badly off must go there. To those who object and say: “Many can’t go there; and many would rather die,” I respond: If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.
This provision alone would not only reduce the federal deficit, but it would help fund the building a multi-billion dollar border wall.
The “ripping out the old law root and branch” would also cut taxes on the wealthy by hundreds of billions of dollars. And the Congressional Budget Office projects the number of people without health insurance would grow to 27 million, further increasing to 32 million by 2026.
This would help make America great again.
Sincerely, Ebenezer …
