Recently President Trump looked to the sky and proclaimed he must be the “chosen one” when talking about tariffs. He said this is a battle that was long overdue and he wondered why past Presidents never took to trying to make America number one in the world, or as he would say “Great Again.”

In many interviews of Donald J Trump prior to his candidacy for president, you can find the interviewers asking him if he would consider running for president? He always said “no.” Until one day, he’d had enough. Enough of sitting around and watching president after president bow down to other countries and decided he had to step up and do something to try to make American Great Again because apparently no one else was going to. I guess he’s the man for the job? I guess he’d be the chosen one? The only one that was willing to take this problem head-on.

Suddenly, the media, once again, misconstrued his comments and put it out there that President Trump was calling himself some sort of god. When is this going to stop?

America has known Donald J Trump for a long time. It still baffles me why he was never called out on being a “racist” until he decided to run for president. Is it the media reporting on what the people are coming up with, or is it the media feeding us the line of horse crap?

President Trump — although not the most politically correct, sarcastic a lot — put his billion-dollar business aside to try to make our country a better place. Agree with his policies or not, I am sick of everyone throwing the man under the bus for misconstrued comments. It only shows your ignorance. It only shows you believe everything you hear from the media, that is most definitely feeding us the line of horse crap. When is it going to stop?

Speaking of horse pucky. Dump didn't put his billion-dollar business aside, he is actively steering taxpayer dollars to his so-called billion-dollar business.

Also, there were a ton of people calling Dump a racist before he was president. Want to know why? Because he is the racist.

But, I don't expect Heather or anyone else who is an active member of the cult of Dump to see or understand any of this.

bjs12258

It will stop when he starts acting like the President of the most powerful nation on Earth and not like a whiny toddler who lashes out when he doesn't get his way. A man who is "sarcastic" and not "politically correct" doesn't belong in the highest office of the land, representing and making deal on behalf of the American people. Remember, this is man who also mocked a disabled reporter, called a woman "horse face", denied making payments to Stormy Daniels until he was actually caught ...I could go on an on. He didn't abandon his "billion dollar" business - he's been enriching himself since the day he stepped into the office (how many days has he spent golfing at Mar-A-Lago? How many trips have the AirForce made to his Scottish properties?). How many patents has Ivanka now gotten approved overseas? I'm sorry Heather - I don't even know you but by defending this man it is YOU are showing your complete lack of intelligence and critical thinking. Turn off Fox and start watching and reading other accounts from real journalists who have made it their life's work to serve the public by writing about politics and the world stage. Anyone who knows anything about history agrees this man is a complete disaster and the sooner we get him gone, the better off we'll all be. I'll leave you with this: Can you imagine the blowback if Obama did 1/4 of what Trump does? FIght with reporters, give family high-level clearance they shouldn't have, get caught in multiple lies to the public. Or talked about grabbing women by their nether-regions....stop defending this President. he is making a fool out of you.

bjs12258

Also, it is well-known that Trump is a racist to his staff and business partners. Go look at his miserable record of being a landlord...this is nothing new. It's just now being magnified because he's on the world stage. As a matter of fact, go check out some of his early interviews on YouTube where he talks about how superior he is to everyone - his IQ is so high, he's so smart....it's sickening and twisted how much this man loves himself and always has. And he's still that way - his refusal to listen to his advisors or read security briefings, or listen to intelligence reports....I almost feel sorry for his family. What is must be like to grow up in a household like that. He has no class, no honor, no understanding of how the world works, barely any manners, no sense of humanity, no empathy or compassion - he is not fit to be our President. History will judge us harshly in 50 years or so because we let this go on for so long.

Kate70

Fully agree with the opinion letter. My response is that it will stop when people are able to stop hating and start role modeling some respect. I have no doubt the answer to THAT will be 'when the President starts showing respect'. I don't believe in the excuse that because someone else is doing it so it is ok for you to do it. As our Mom's used to say, "if everyone jumped off a bridge would/should you do that as well? " If you are going to use that kind of 'logic' (when he stops, I will stop ) then it follows that you will do everything else he does, right?

antiteaparty

Respect is earned. Dump and those who support him don't deserve respect.

MidwestLife

Anti, that is the silliest thing I've ever heard. Supporting someone who you don't like or agree with doesn't mean that person doesn't deserve respect. You, your comments, and your opinions are a big part of the problem. I could give numerous examples of supporting someone who may not be 'ideal' in other's opinions but that doesn't change the fact that they deserve to be respected as well as their reasoning. I can tell you that you have not 'earned' my respect!!

antiteaparty

Sorry to disappoint. But, I will go on.

antiteaparty

If you support ripping children from their parents and locking them in cages you haven't earned my respect. If you support a President who cozies up to dictators while alienating our allies you haven't earned my respect. If you support the President and his entourage (aids, Secret Service, family, etc) spending every other weekend enriching the President with taxpayer dollars by frequenting one of his private clubs you haven't earned my respect. If you are cool with the Air Force going out of its way to fuel at remote locations so personnel can stay at one of the President's posh private clubs using taxpayers dollars you haven't earned my respect. If you consider an attack on Saudi Arabia as an attack on America that deserves an immediate military response endangering American lives you haven't earned my respect. If you don't think people should be able to seek asylum in the US you haven't earned my respect. If you feel that it is necessary to roll back all environmental protections so industry is free to pollute whatever waterway they wish you haven't earned my respect. If you support calling the press the "enemy of the people" you haven't earned my respect. If you support the narcissistic authoritarian currently residing in the White House you haven't earned my respect. There's more. A lot more. And I am happy to go on if you wish.

SoDakD

Dear Heather,

Perhaps you didn’t originally intend it, but your letter is blithely emblematic of how TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome), affects both sides of our political polarization.

Kate70

MidwestLife: antiteaparty, by his very screen name, exhibits his deliberate lack of respect or by his numerous replies to others has no intrinsic knowledge of the definition of respect, or he just does not care to respect anyone who has an opinion that differs from his/hers. I have tried not to be disrespectful to him and I certainly don't mind his expressing his views. I just wanted to say that i support what you had to say. An example (even though I am not of the Catholic denomination) would be that I do not agree with quite a number of the things the Pope has said and declared but I would never ever dream of calling him names for what he believes in... Pope Dumcis perhaps, if I were to borrow someone else's disrespect ? I do happen to agree with some things the Pope has had to say but that just brings me back to my oft repeated question that anti and friends have not answered for nearly 3 years.... "Do you simply hate this man (our President) and therefore are willing to condemn and ridicule EVERY single thing that he says, promotes, legislates, and believes; every single thing that comes out of his mouth or this Administration's actions? That you would oppose even things you may have supported yourself in the past because of your hatred for him and your "antiteaparty" loathing? If not, please name one thing that you have approved of that he has said, done, or promoted during these last few years. One. " In all the times I have asked this, no one has ever even addressed the question let alone answered it. It is avoided by bringing up something that he/she has repeatedly quoted or often incorrectly accused the President of doing to bring out their REASON for disrespect. Personally, I have to conclude that the HATE is the driving force and that respect is not an option if you disagree with what he/she is saying. Thank you for trying, MidwestLife. I guess all we can do is vote again in 2020.

antiteaparty

Oh, dear Kate, you presume that I hate this country because I hate Dump. This is incorrect. I love this country and see its potential, which is the reason I hate Dump. He stands for nothing that is American and patriotic. You ask us haters to name one thing we agree with that he has done and wonder why there is no response. The reason for that is simple: Dump has done nothing that we agree with. So, there is your answer.

bjs12258

Kate70 - I couldn't disagree with you more. I was willing to give Trump a chance in the very beginning - but when he made fun of that disabled reporter, and then the the Gold Star family, he completely lost me. What kind of person does that? You have to have hate in your heart and absolutely no kindness or respect for others - exactly the qualities you are subscribing to those like me who loathe this President. I have many, many reasons to disrespect him - just look back on his interviews and history of telling lies. It's actually to the point where I don't even pay attention to him anymore because everything he says seems to be a lie. It's clear he is enriching himself and his family at the expense of the American people. He's taking money away from our military families for his stupid wall that he PROMISED Mexico would pay for. He fawns over cruel, military dictators and makes enemies of our proven Allies. I would love to find something I could agree with him on - but I just can't. A good question for you might be - what has he accomplished that you think is so good? How has he improved your life? I thought Trump was OK before he was President and was willing to give him a chance when he was running - but he has made it clear the type of person that he is and he is not fit to run the country. I wish he would stop his childish antics and become the President we all want him to be - but it's just not in his nature and it won't happen. I don't understand at all how people can still be supporting him. Don't you think it's absurd that he was insisting the hurricane was going to hit Alabama - to the point of drawing his own map? Or makes up schoolyard names for his enemies. Or the fact the he can't seem to keep anyone on his staff longer than a few months? Do you think EVERYONE is wrong about him except you and his other believers? Don't you understand that every time he opens his mouth to tell another lie, he knows that there is a base of people who will believe him no matter what he says - and he thinks you are all beneath him? You trust that guy to make decisions for all of us here in America? No, I have no respect for this man. Anyone who is a true patriot that loves this country would find every reason to hate this man - who is taking apart our democratic institutions every day and ruining our reputation around the world. So maybe you're right - I can't find a single thing I agree with him one and I hate him for what he's doing TO our country. Because he's sure not doing anything FOR it.

Kate70

First antiteaparty: I have never said you hated our country. Ever. I have said and I will continue to say that you have no respect for the President of the United States nor for anyone who disagrees with your opinions.

Secondly, I find it sad that you do not see anything good at all in anything he has done, but It does prove to me that your hatred for the man is such that anything he might do or say will never be anything but anathema to you. It is disconcerting to hear such all consuming hate but your opinions are your own..... I really don't think you speak for all Democrats, Liberals, or even anti-Trump people however. You may well speak for all who hate him to the point of including anyone and everyone who does NOT hate him into horrifying people. Unfortunately for you, there are many millions of us who do not hate that way....

Last of all, you can think of nothing that he or his Adm have done for our country that is good. Not so very long ago you believed that President Obama, President Clinton and even President Bush were to be highly commended for proposing that the US acknowledge Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel and ask that it be restored as such. None of those Presidents had the courage to make that proclamation on our behalf. (perhaps you don't care and are with the rep from MN who openly opposes our ally, Israel, and talks trash about Jewish people. Again, very disturbing but certainly your right.) You obviously don't really care about the Mexican people whose plight you lament constantly , using it as a reason to label President Trump a racicst. He and his administration have enabled the economy in our country to cut the unemployment rate for Hispanics, African Americans, and our country to the best it has been for over 12 yrs. But the economy isn't a good thing either? OK, how about the fact that the US and all the Presidents for the past 4 or more admin. have decried the fact that that the US was reliant on foreign nations to provide us with the oil we need and at exhorbitant prices (remember when gas was rationed in the 80's? Remember when we were all aghast at $4 and upwards for a gallon of gas? Remember price wars for gas so that gas stations could make some money and stay open having cars lined up for a mile to get gas from the lowest competitor in that war? Well, we are now independent of foreign countries for oil needs. Not a good thing anymore ? We now have a President who is actually following through on campaign promises. They weren't made just to get elected. The last 3 or more Presidents have all stated that the Immigration situation in our country was out of control, a major crisis, had to be stopped along with the reliance of so many of immigrants on our welfare system because they were not qualified for jobs that were open or did not want them....? Whatever the reason, listen to the Innauguration addresses of President Obama and President Bush and the State of the Union Address by President Clinton. All of them insisted we needed to and they would see to it that Immigration, and most especially ILLEGAL immigration, was curtailed. Stopped. Didn't happen. It is starting to happen now under President Trump and that seems to have made him a racist. Interesting about- face. I could address every one of your "hates" with facts that were not skewed by big media (not ALL media......and only media and journalists who fail to tell the truth or who hide behind reporting only partial stories or stories taken out of context, or outright lies are the "enemy of the people". Any other media is not and has never been accused of being so. You left out that part when you quoted the President as saying the media was the enemy of the people.) The only babies separated ("ripped out of parent's arms" is another skewing of reality)... the only ones separated from parents are those whose parents came into our country ILLEGALLY and therefore have committed a crime. That is what "illegal" means, going against the law, committing a crime. They failed to enter the country legally. As such they were charged with breaking the law and incarcerated to stand trial or be heard before a judge. In our country, parents who go to jail do not get to retain custody of their children. If we hate that law, we need to change the law. Everyone is loudly avowing that "NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW" and I could not agree more. No ONE. Not the President and not an illegal alien. Immigration laws need extensive revisions. I don't see the Dems doing one single thing about that or anything else. Instead, they are just opposing everything and threatening or calling for Impeachment of the President.... who if he has done impeachable offenses I wish someone would get off their high horses and get it done. It has been threatened since before he was even innaugurated.

Ok... that is enough for now. I know it didn't even get your attention nor presented one good thing that has been done because you will never quit hating. So, I am not going further for now. If none of those things are good, then I am very confused as to why those thoughts and promises were great coming from other Presidents whom you have praised. And no, you haven't "earned" much respect from me. But I would never call you names or deny you the right to say the things you do. And I do afford you the respect that every human being deserves. In our country , ALL lives matter.

antiteaparty

Kate (aka High Priestess of the Cult of Dump) has the blinders on when it comes to Dear Leader. You don't know me so don't presume that you know how I felt about past Presidents or their policies. Do know that I hold all of them in much higher regard (except Bush, I only hold him in slightly higher regard) than Dump.

antiteaparty

High Priestess of the Cult of Dump: I can't believe you have such hatred for Ilhan Omar and are unable to find any good in all that she has accomplished!!!! Coming to the US as a child refugee and working hard to make it all the way to the US House of Representatives! She has exemplified the American Dream! So sad that you have such hatred for her and others that disagree with your Fox News fear mongering talking points!

Kate70

bjs: I have much I could say to you as well. Some is answered above. Others will have to wait. I am tired after wasting my time trying to clarify other's "horrifying" positions for now. No, you didn't say I was horrifying. You merely implied I was ignorant. Sorry for my error.

"President Trump think energy efficient light bulbs make him look orange... Even worse, every microphone makes him sound dumb and racist." Seth Meyers

Mr. Trump's history of bigotry and racism is substantial. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/06/trump-racism-comments/588067/

Kate70

DMilroy: It is amazing to me that intelligent people use a comedian's quote to prove a point. Seth Meyers is your factual "news" source? And the Atlantic? Please read a majority of their articles (and the sources for their information) for the last 2+ years........and then go back more years. They have been far left for a long, long time politically to have any credibility or objectivity in my view. I'm curious. Do you buy into their political leanings so heavily that you found that article all on your own in your personal issue of Atlantic............ or did you just Google "Proof of Trump's Racism" and come across what you thought was a great and credible article? Both of your quotes would be like me quoting Hannity or the other guy on Fox as MY source!! (Just my experience with having subscribed to and read the Atlantic for over a year and as an Independent finding them far from being anything other than an opinion magazine and nowhere close to being a reliable or unbiased news journal. )

* antiteaparty, do you EVER actually READ and recall a response to these debates we have? One more time: I do NOT watch Fox... I have been asking everyone to watch C-Span for years because they do NOT COMMENT on the news. They show it and let you make your own decisions, unlike Fox (who IS a commentary /opinion based channel by their own admission if you ever read journalism posts) or the big media who comment and give their own opinions on everything they report when in fact they claim to be reporting just the news, just the facts. So please don't align me with Fox or any other source but C-Span and my own opinion. I also would appreciate it if you wouldn't call me names or label me.... How many times do I have to say that I do NOT agree with all that our President has to say or has done? I am not his lackey. I am not even his defender except for hate and false accusations and disrespectful name calling. I will join right in with you on some of your criticisms of his views. He is far from perfect and in my opinion is absolutely wrong on some things. Got those points now? But I do defend anyone against vitriolic and unashamed and ugly hate and bias and lies. Since you direct those at the President constantly, I answer you with my opinion. You either don't bother to read it, or it doesn't sink in, or like your hatred of all things Trump related, you don't believe it because it defended him from being called names and being disrespected. The fact that I do happen to agree with several of his policies and opinions makes me "the High Priestess of the Dump Cult". Love your labels. ) And you read you read your own beliefs INTO any statements . IE: I did not EVER quote anything from Fox; I did not EVER say you hated our country; and I did not EVER say I hated the young Rep. from MN. (I do hate what she has said about Jerusalem and the Jewish people ). I did say you have said good and important things about other Presidents (as have I) and have never called them names but that even those great men believed and said some of the things that Pres. Trump espouses and yet you hate HIM for saying them but not them. You can listen personally to their speeches .... I merely pointed out the hypocrisy of the intense hatred by ANYONE who espouses it. )

I have repeatedly said that I respect your right to your political opinions but I don't respect anyone's propensity for labeling or name calling or lying, or blatant hatred.

And a final PS to bjs: I,too, do not like or respect the President's tweets when he name calls . I thought his Atlanta thing was also absurd. I repeat, there is much that I do not agree with him on. But I will not disrespect him. And I laughed out loud at your "giving him a chance" until he mocked a disabled person and a Gold Star family". #1) you didn't give him much time of "a chance" since those things happened long before he was elected and #2) you apparently did not read what was NOT reported by big media, that which was left out... you did not read the fact checks on either of those "incidents" that made him "lose you." You might want to go back and recheck those. If your loathing began at that point then you apparently decided then and there not to fact check and to rely on big media for anything they report.

I will again repeat something neither you nor 'anti' seem to hear. I am an Independent. I check out sources and I check out full speeches and I refuse to take things out of context... I do not care if they were said by this President or a man on the street. I make my opinions based on the full context of what was said or done and if I don't know that, I don't make accusations. And unlike my spouse, I also don't listen to the "news" by Stephen Colbert nightly. I used to. It used to make me laugh. But it got old ... he needs some new speech writers and he needs to learn to deliver his monologues in a way that so many people seem to think is factual reporting and not comedy (my own opinion), as they go on to repeat it as fact.

dmilroy

Mr. Trump's long history of bigotry does not excuse his current bigotry. You dismiss the Atlantic article documenting Donald Trumps racism writing but can't or won't dispute anything in the article. You assert you don't like name-calling and don't respect Mr. Trump's tweets when he name-calls but you continue to back and defend Donald Trump while complaining about name-calling.

Cut and Pasted from my last post: "How many times do I have to say that I do NOT agree with all that our President has to say or has done? I am not his lackey. I am not even his defender except for hate and false accusations and disrespectful name calling. I will join right in with you on some of your criticisms of his views. He is far from perfect and in my opinion is absolutely wrong on some things. Got those points now? But I do defend anyone against vitriolic and unashamed and ugly hate and bias and lies." And paraphrased from some of my other posts: there are some things I do like that he has done and is doing. Those I will express my opinions on just as I expect you to your express your disagreements. But there is a line drawn for me when there is name calling and I would be disingenuous and dishonest if I did not say that I think that because I am opposed to some of his views that all of his views must be wrong. And I personally think it is disrespectful, immature, and unnecessary to call names, whether it be the President doing so or others doing so to him or anyone else. Two wrongs (namecalling from either) do not make a right.

dmilroy

You assert that you "defend anyone against vitriolic and unashamed and ugly hate and bias and lies" but don't stand-up for the immigrants, refugees, Muslims, Mexicans and the others denigrated by Donald Trump while defending Mr. Trump.
