Dear South Dakota citizens,

Please contact Sens. Mike Rounds and John Thune and tell them to stand against Sen. Mitch McConnell (regarding the Supreme Court vacancy).

Here is the stand that both Thune and Rounds made in 2016. Contact them and ask them to follow through with the stand that they took on March 16, 2016.

• Sen. Thune, press release, (March 16, 2016) — “The American people deserve to have their voices heard on the nomination of the next Supreme Court justice, who could fundamentally alter the direction of the Supreme Court for a generation. Since the next presidential election is already underway, the next president should make this lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.”

• Rounds, Kristi Noem, Thune react to Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Mitchell Daily Republic, March 16, 2016 — Sen. Mike Rounds: “Whoever is confirmed to fill the open seat on the Supreme Court will be serving a lifetime appointment. ..,. Keeping in mind the current political makeup of the court, the man or woman who will replace Justice Scalia has the potential to hold incredible influence over the ideological direction of the court for a generation to come. It is critically important that the next justice is committed to upholding the principles of the Constitution. We owe it to Justice Scalia, our judicial system and the Constitution to uphold the highest standards when determining our next Supreme Court Justice. We also owe it to the American people to make certain their voice is heard in this election.”

If the senators do not stand as they did in 2016, please realize that these senators are hypocrites. They would not be worthy of representing South Dakota citizens. When a true South Dakota person says something, they stand by it. If they do not, you cannot trust anything else they say.

Mr. Harens, I agree with with your sentiment in this particular instance and believe in all fairness the vote should be delayed. With that said you might want to examine your own words over the last 40 yrs before throwing around the word hypocrite. You have on more than one occasion resorted to name calling and derogatory comments in reference to Trump supporters and Republicans in general. You promoted mutually respectful and informed/knowledgeable discussion yrs ago. Maybe we can all strive to treat others with respect whether we agree on the subject or not.

Dear Bcdog19 - just a quick note to clarify a few things. If you check my registration history you will discover I have been a registered Republican since 1970 and amend passed to allow 18 year olds to vote. I was raised an Eisenhower Republican. At your age you know what that means. I am today still a registered Republican. And no, for 40 years I did not resort to name calling or negative comments until I could no longer believe what I was seeing or hearing these last four years. Most of my students never knew what party I was. I couldn’t because it against my principles. I also do not hide behind an on line name. If I say something, people know it was me.

MyThoughts

in 2020, as in 2016, both parties were/are trying to exercise political power for political advantage. Reverse parties in 2016, a republican president and a democrat senate, and the senate would have done just what republicans did in 2016. Reverse parties today, a democrat president and a democrat senate, and they would ram an appointment to SCOTUS through too. Do you really think any different? If so, your tin foil hat is on way too tight. Politics at this level is a blood sport, only there is nothing sporting about it. These politicians will do what they have always done and as history has shown, neither party takes the high road.
