Robert Jensen, age 88 of Yankton, SD passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton with the Rev. Levi Willms officiating. Burial will follow in the Yankton Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted at the gravesite by Ernest Bowyer VFW Post 791 and the South Dakota Army Reserve National Guard Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 and also for one hour prior to service time on Thursday.

Robert Jensen was born March 20, 1931 in Yankton, SD to Chris and Annie (Schmidt) Jensen. Robert went to school in Ogden, UT and Yankton, SD. He went into the Army in 1947 to 1950. He served in the elite group of paratroopers and took green beret and special forces training. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge and Rifle Bar Glider Badge and Parachute Badge.

Robert married Betty Roach on August 11, 1951 in Malid, ID and to this union 4 children were born: Steve, Jean, Randy and Karen. They returned to Yankton, SD in 1961 to buy his father’s business, Jensen’s Scrap Metal and ran this business for 50 years before retiring. Robert was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Robert is survived by his children: Steve (Sheilia) Jensen, Jeanne (Ron) Gednalske, Randy (Bonnie) Jensen, Karen (Tom) Thorson; grandchildren: Zack, Kerie, Steve, Chris, Joe, Sarah, Matt, Erica, Jon and his 9 great-grandchildren

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty; and his siblings:  Evelyn Jensen, Marion Simonsen, Dorothy Keirns, Betty Knutson, Walter Jensen, Donna Bovero, Barbara Wuestawald and Larry Jensen.
