Annabelle Severson, 87, of Vermillion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Grand Living at Lake Lorraine in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion with Pastor Nicole Anderson officiating from First United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion.

Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.

Annabelle was born on September 13, 1931 in Gayville, SD, to Peter and Daisy (Durham) Rask. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Gayville. She graduated from Gayville High School in 1949.

For most of her life, Annabelle was a farmer’s wife and proud of it. After she graduated high school in Gayville, she worked for a short time in Yankton, until she moved to Vermillion and began working at Clay Union. She married Maurice Severson, the love of her life, at the Methodist Church in Gayville, on Oct. 4, 1953. They were married for over 61 years. They made their home on a farm outside of Vermillion, and she was proud to be a farmer’s wife while they raised their three children: Tom, Janet and John.

Annabelle enjoyed camping with the family during the summers, between planting and harvest. The family also enjoyed going to the Clay County Fair in Spencer, IA, which became a tradition for nearly 60 years. They had a good life on the farm until the flood of 1984 when they moved to town.

Some other things she enjoyed included quilting, card making, as well as belonging to various quilt and card groups. She took pride in being a Boy Scout leader for her sons, and 4-H leader for her daughter. Once the nest was empty, she went to work in Married Student Housing office at USD until she retired. She spent much of her free time volunteering; whether being a census taker, assisting the Senior Citizens Center, being a monitor at the City Lounge, or spending many hours at the Historical Society, becoming a life member. Annabelle loved to help out wherever she could.

Annabelle also took pride in her four grandchildren: Justin, Keifer, Rita and Kristin. She also loved to spend time with her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Aviana (Keifer and Kelsey Severson of Sioux Falls) and Oliver (Kristin and Scott Vest of Jacksonville NC).

Annabelle is survived by her sons, Tom (Mary) Severson of Rochester, MN, and John (Janice) Severson of Sioux Falls; her daughter, Janet (Dale) Ducheneaux of Canton; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Daisy Rask, and her brother, Rollo Rask, and her step-brothers, Carol and Wallace Durham.

Kober Funeral Home of Vermillion has been entrusted with the services. Condolences may be posted online to www.koberfuneralhome.com.
