Eddie John Walter passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2019 at his home.
He was born to Joseph and Bertha (Andersen) Walter on June 29, 1951 in Yankton, SD. He grew up on the family farm in Freeman, SD. He attended Independence 86 grade school and Freeman Public High School. He graduated from high school in 1969 and attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD. He graduated from there in 1974. After graduation from college, Eddie enlisted and served 24 years in the US Army where he received many medals and accolades. After retiring from the service, he started working for the US Postal Service in Kansas City.
During his time in the Army he met his first wife, Nan Suck, who preceded him in death in 2000. From this union survives a daughter, Kristy (Kenneth) Jones. Eddie later married his current wife, Jane. From this marriage survives an adopted son, Justin (Dori) Walter. Eddie also leaves behind to cherish his memory four sisters, Mary Jo Walter, Donna (Roger) Schoon, Judy (Tom) Olsen and Janet (Warren) Scherschligt, seven grandchildren, Madailein, Dominick, Abby, Clay, Kalithea, Kenneth and Leon, and many nieces and nephews.
Eddie was preceded in death by his first wife, Nan Suk, his parents, and a brother-in-law, Delmer Walter, Sr,
He enjoyed playing cards, drinking, going to monthly Rod and Gun Club meetings and was always up for a good debated. He loved to come home to Freeman for the annual Fourth of July celebration.
His funeral was August 9, 2019 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, in Leavenworth, Kansas. Burial immediately follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.
