Snow Work

Teacher Jamie Van Winkle’s first-grade students at Yankton’s Lincoln Elementary School show off some of the artwork that they and the school’s other students did for a weeklong project involving the children’s book “Snowmen at Night” by Caralyn Buehner. Students in each grade created snowmen to display in hallways, and they wrote their own essays based on the book. The students were scheduled to complete the week by building actual snowmen outdoors with their study buddies, but the lack of snow (and the abundance of cold) kept the kids indoors. Some snowmen were created using such things as marshmallows and frosting.
