Yankton firefighters responded to the Yankton High School parking lot for a reported car fire at 2:41 p.m. Sunday. The driver stated that the oil light on her 2012 Impala alerted her to a problem, so she pulled into the lot where leaking oil was ignited from the heat of the engine. It was discovered that the oil filter was loose and caused the leak to spray oil under pressure. Firefighters were on scene for about 30 minutes. No injuries were reported. Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickles added that this call was the first one since the 1990s in which firefighters were delayed by a train moving through town; the trucks arrive at the 21st St. just as the train crossed the tracks.
