1 Hurt In Friday Accident

One person was injured in a collision on Highway 81 in northern Yankton County Friday afternoon. According to Yankton Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles, a northbound SUV struck a pickup pulling a camper shortly after 2 p.m. about one mile north of the intersection with Highway 46. The occupants of the southbound vehicle were uninjured; however, the driver of the SUV needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was airlifted to Sioux Falls with unknown injuries. The highway was closed in both directions for most of the afternoon. The Yankton Fire Department, Irene Fire Department, Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol and Yankton County EMS responded to the accident.
