Three Injured In Highway 50 Accident Near Gayville

Crews were called to the intersection of 451st Ave. and Highway 50 Monday afternoon after a vehicle struck a semi. Yankton County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Rothschadl told the Press & Dakotan that the semi was leaving the Ma & Pa’s C Store parking lot and turning eastbound on Highway 50. Rothschadl said the semi turned in front of a westbound vehicle which drove under the trailer. The roof was partially torn off the car. The vehicle ended up in a ditch. A male, a female and a 3-year-old passenger were taken to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. Their condition was not announced. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and westbound Highway 50 had to be closed for a time.
