Three people were displaced following a fire in Yankton Friday afternoon. According to Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles, crews were summoned to Ash St. around 2:06 p.m. for a house fire. Nickles said a woman in the house was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and evacuated herself and her children before calling the fire department. The fire started in the kitchen and escalated into the attic. Nickles said the house had considerable smoke damage and is not habitable at this time. The American Red Cross is assisting the family. Nickles said the controllers in the stove had shorted out, which is a probable cause of the fire. No injuries were reported. To see a video, visit www.yankton.net.
