House Fire

One person required medical attention and a total of three people were displaced from their rented home when a fire was reported in the 700 block of E. 17th St. in Yankton at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday night. According to Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles, an occupant was outside smoking when she saw fire through the front window. When firefighters arrived, the front porch was fully involved and the fire had moved up to the attic area, where it caused extensive damage to the roof. The front room sustained smoke and heat damage. One person was taken to the hospital due to underlying conditions aggravated by the smoke. The Red Cross assisted the three residents.
