Highway Spill West Of Yankton

Area law enforcement and first responders were summoned to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 50 a half-mile west of the intersection of 420th St. at about 8 p.m. Thursday night. According to early reports, a semi tractor/trailer tried to avoid an out of control pickup and the two vehicles broadsided. The pickup went into the south ditch and the driver was extracted by firefighters. The semi went into the south ditch and turned over. Both drivers were transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital with apparently non-life-threatening injuries. The trailer was filled with 64 head of cattle, and local ranchers as well as a crew from Stockman’s Livestock of Yankton, were summoned to the scene with trailers and gates to evacuate the cattle. At press time, it was not known if any cattle were killed.
