Marie Steckelberg, Ed.D., education consultant, was recently invited to be a member of the Johnson Space Center’s advisory committee for NASA’s Network of States. Targeting formal and informal educators show serve youth grades 3-5, NASA trains selected educators within partner organizations on NASA content, missions, and education resources in a week long institute. These educators in turn deliver NASA based STEM engagement activities for youth. This year’s Institute is July 9-13 at the Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX.

From 2011 to 2017, Dr. Steckelberg, owner of Steckelberg Consulting, managed and implemented two NASA education grants awarded to the South Dakota Discovery Center, Pierre, SD. During this time a strong relationship was established with the NASA STEM Education Professional Development Collaborative at the Johnson Space Center. Through the NASA grant funded Rising Star Educator Program, Dr. Steckelberg brought Brandon Hargis, a NASA education specialist, to South Dakota to facilitate a workshop for Rising Star Educator Program pre-service educators and sent ten students from Sinte Gleska University and Oglala Lakota College to attend a week long pre-service educator institute as part of the NASA Minority University Research & Education Project (MUREP). Dr. Steckelberg and the SD Discovery Center are working together on the Network of States program.
