The body of a Yankton woman reported missing earlier this week has been found in Nebraska.
According to law enforcement and media reports, the body of Phyllis Hunhoff, 59, was found Wednesday in Knox County in a rural area of the Santee Sioux Reservation.
Authorities say foul play is suspected.
Hunhoff was reported missing Monday. She had been seen leaving her mother’s home in Utica Sunday night and did not show up at work the next morning.
Authorities were searching for Hunhoff’s 2001 white Honda Accord, which was also reported missing.
A search had been conducted since Monday by several local and area agencies.
On late Wednesday afternoon, the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office that Hunhoff’s vehicle had been spotted in Knox County by a member of the public. A deceased female, identified as Hunhoff, was found inside the vehicle, the Yankton County office reported.
A multi-agency investigation is under way involving the Yankton and Knox County sheriff’s offices, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Santee Tribal Police.
No other details have been released.
