VERMILLION — The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) is excited to announce the joint contribution from the University of South Dakota (USD) and the University of South Dakota Foundation of $200,000 towards the Vermillion NOW! 3 capital campaign.
The announcement was made recently by Nate Welch, President & CEO of the VCDC and President Sheila Gestring of USD at the July monthly meeting of The Rotary Club of Vermillion.
Building on the momentum of the first two campaigns, the University of South Dakota and USD Foundation are taking a leadership role in the launch of the Vermillion NOW! 3 campaign with a combined pledge of $200,000.
“USD is proud to be a part of the Vermillion NOW! 3 campaign,” said USD President Sheila K. Gestring. “Our university is deeply connected to this community and through our strong partnership with the VCDC, we will continue growing together as these exciting new ideas come to fruition.”
“We are pleased to join with the University in making a lead gift to the Vermillion NOW! 3 campaign,” said Steve Brown, USD Foundation President & CEO. “The VCDC is a strong and valued partner to the University and has proven itself over a decade of successful projects during the first two campaigns. We look forward to continuing our partnership and strengthening our impact in support of the growth and vitality of the Vermillion area.”
“The strong partnership between USD and the VCDC is a critical component to the strength of our community,” said Farron Pratt, President of Vermillion’s First Dakota National Bank and Campaign Co-Chair of Vermillion NOW! 3. “This tremendous pledge is evidence of USD’s commitment to that partnership for the betterment of our community.”
Officially two months into the campaign and the VCDC, through the committed work of the Vermillion NOW! 3 Leadership Committee and the broader recruitment team have now raised $1,636,242 which is 94% of their $1.725M goal. The Vermillion NOW! 2 campaign team raised $1,669,612, which means the VCDC is just $33,370 away from exceeding the previous campaign’s raised capital.
Highlights of the campaign include the continued support of our strategic partners, like the University of South Dakota, the City of Vermillion and the joint contribution from Sanford Vermillion, Sanford Health and the Dakota Hospital Foundation among others. To date, a commitment of 92 donor pledges have been received from the community with a resounding 46% coming from first-time donors.
“Vermillion has a rich history of ‘showing up’ to help grow the community,” said Nate Welch, President & CEO of the VCDC. “In recent years, we have been able to grow that engagement with more and more involved. That is a major effect to the results Vermillion has been able to achieve.”
The Vermillion NOW! 3 capital campaign will focus on Amenities & Infrastructure, Job Creation, and Strategic, Collaborative Leadership for the Vermillion Area. Attention will be focused on addressing housing needs within the Vermillion community; cultivating a workforce that attracts and retains young professionals; and facilitating collaboration between business leaders to streamline capital projects that will promote unique opportunities for community members and individuals in different geographic regions.
The campaign will continue to run through to mid-September.
