UPDATE 11:32 a.m.: Buildings in the Yankton School District (YSD) are no longer under a soft lockdown, according to a followup text from the district.
“None of our attendance centers in YSD are in lockdown now,” said the text, issued at 11:31 a.m. “Our students are safe and there is no immediate threat to them. We have worked directly with law enforcement in securing the safety of our students and staff. A person has been detained by law enforcement.”
ORIGINAL STORY: Buildings in the Yankton School District have been placed in a “soft lockdown,” according to a text sent out by the district Thursday morning.
“No students will be allowed to leave the buildings at this time,” stated the text that was issued at 10:41 a.m.
The text said an online threat was made towards Yankton High School.
“We are working directly with law enforcement,” the text read. “Students are safe and secure at this time.”
The text added that more information would be released later “when available.”
