HARTINGTON, Neb. — An Elk Point man has died as the result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident in Cedar County, Nebraska.
The accident claimed the life of Harlan Harold Kleihauer, 61, according to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP).
The accident occurred at approximately 2:05 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Nebraska Highway 12 and U.S. Highway 81. The intersection is located about 10 miles south of Yankton, between Crofton, Nebraska, and Hartington, Nebraska.
Kleihauer was driving a 2003 Ford Econoline van, traveling eastbound on Highway 12. Larry D. Kracht, 47, of Magnolia, Minnesota, was driving a 2005 International semi-truck traveling northbound on Highway 81.
Kleihauer failed to yield the right of way to Kracht, and the vehicles struck in the 81-12 intersection, according to the NSP report. Kleihauer was found to be deceased at the scene, while Kracht was treated and released at the scene.
There were no passengers in either of the vehicles.
Highways 81 and 12 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated.
The NSP was assisted by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office and the Crofton Rescue Department.
