Briest To Veterans: ‘Tell Your Stories’

Jenny Briest, an advocate for wounded soldiers, was the featured speaker at Friday’s annual Yankton VFW Veterans Day Banquet. Her husband, Corey, sustained severe injuries in a 2005 roadside bombing in Iraq.

Jenny Briest opened her keynote address at Friday night’s VFW Post 791 Veteran’s Day Program and Membership Dinner with an admission — she wasn’t entirely sure what to talk about when first approached.

“When I was asked to speak at tonight’s event, I was very honored,” she said. “Being able to be in a room full of all you heroes is very humbling but overwhelming. I then began to wonder, ‘What am I going to say?’ I usually talk about what Veterans Day means and what others can do to honor veterans. Well, this crowd knows what Veterans Day is all about. This crowd knows that every day is Veterans Day.”
