SIOUX FALLS — A Wagner man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for aggravated sexual assault.

Xavier Zephier, 26, was sentenced June 6 in federal court, according to U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons.

U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier conducted the sentencing.

Zephier was found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse as a result of a federal jury trial in Sioux Falls on March 5, 2019. He was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $5,100.

The conviction stemmed from an incident on Oct. 29, 2017, when Zephier forcibly raped a woman while she was sleeping.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jennifer D. Mammenga and Ann M. Hoffman prosecuted the case.

Zephier was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
