A man tied to a series of summer burglaries in the Yankton area has been arrested.
Hiram Alvarez Jr., 21, Yankton, was arrested Tuesday for grand theft (aggravated), third-degree burglary (11 counts), intentional damage to property ($1,000-$100,000)/first-degree vandalism (two counts), intentional damage to property ($400 or less)/third-degree vandalism (11 counts), resisting arrest, petty theft ($400-$1,000 — three counts), possession of marijuana (2 oz. or less) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to an email from Yankton County Sheriff Jim Vlahakis, Alvarez was allegedly involved in several business and storage unit burglaries in July as well as a number of instances of vandalism.
Businesses included Syd’s Salvage, H&L Truck Repair, Feimar Construction, Collision Center storage units, the Double T Truck Stop and Ma & Pa’s in Gayville.
Vlahakis said that the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected in connection to the crimes.
