Thanks For Making Sports Equipment Collection A Success
American Legion Post. No. 12 would like to extend a big thank-you to all who helped make its recent sports equipment collection a big success.
The legion started collecting sports equipment the last week of March. They hauled a pickup load and a 16-foot trailer full of wonderful donations to the Brookings American Legion storage units Sunday, April 20. Donations included baseballs, bats, uniforms, helmets, footballs, basketballs, golf club sets and balls, punching bag and gloves, two free-standing basketball hopps, bangboards and hoops, volleyballs, skis, rollerblades, tennis rackets and balls, badmington set, frisbees and 10 bicycles of all sizes.
Bob and Russ of the Brookings Legion will go through all the donations to make sure the balls hold air and the bicycles are in working order before delivering to the reservation.
A special thanks goes to J.D. O'Grady and the Summit Center staff for letting the legion use their facility for a collection point, and to Myron Weinandt of Lewis & Clark Auction for the use of his pickup and trailer to haul the donations to Brookings.
