LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - One of the Senate's most outspoken critics of the war in Iraq said he wants to hear solutions from both parties' nominees before he endorses one for president.
Republican U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel's comments come two days after he said on ABC's "This Week" that his endorsement of Sen. John McCain isn't a foregone conclusion, and a day after McCain said he wouldn't change course in Iraq even as the U.S. death toll rose to 4,000 and the war entered its sixth year.
"I'm not going to endorse anybody if I fundamentally disagree with them," Hagel said Tuesday in a phone interview with The Associated Press.
"I want to hear from my friend John McCain how he intends to work us out of this, and from the Democratic candidate how they want to work us out of this," Hagel said.
